1) Will the Isonas PowerNet IP mullion reader fit on a narrow aluminum storefront mullion?
The mullion form factor measures 5.1 x 1.7 x 0.71 inches, so it lands on the narrow face of a typical storefront mullion where the wider wall-mount housing (5.1 x 3.25 x 0.71 inches) will not. If you are mounting to drywall or a single-gang box instead, use the wall-mount version.
2) What card credentials does the Isonas PowerNet smart card reader-controller read?
It reads 13.56MHz smart cards including MiFare Classic, Ultralight and MiFare Plus, MiFare DESFire EV2 (secure data, Isonas credentials only), iClass CSN, and ISO14443A, ISO14443B and ISO15693 cards. It also handles 125 kHz FSK proximity credentials and Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 and later, so a phone can be used as the credential through the Isonas mobile app.
3) Do I need a separate door controller panel with the Isonas PowerNet IP reader-controller?
No. The PowerNet IP unit is a reader and controller in one at the door, and it works with Isonas Pure Access software. If you would rather keep existing Wiegand readers on some openings, Isonas also offers the PowerNet IP-Bridge, which connects standard Wiegand readers into the same Pure IP system so the hardware can be mixed across a building.
4) Can this Isonas reader be mounted outdoors?
Yes. It is rated IP55 and operates from -40F to 158F (-40C to 70C), which covers exterior door and gate locations as well as indoor use. It is FCC, IC and CE certified.
5) What power does the Isonas PowerNet mullion reader draw, and what voltage does it need?
It runs on 5 to 16V DC. The mullion unit draws 106mA average and 144mA peak. For sizing a shared supply, the wall mount version draws 119mA average / 169mA peak and the wall mount keypad 143mA average / 193mA peak.
6) How do I wire an Isonas PowerNet reader, and what do the pigtail colors do?
It terminates through an 8 wire pigtail on common Wiegand reader wiring. Red is power (5-16V DC), black is ground, drain is shield ground, white is Wiegand data 1 and green is Wiegand data 0. Blue controls the green LED, orange the red LED, yellow the beeper, and brown is the tamper output.
7) Does the Isonas mullion reader-controller have a keypad, or do I need a PIN version?
The mullion unit is a card and mobile credential reader only. If your opening needs card plus PIN, order the wall mount keypad form factor, which has a backlit keypad and measures 5.1 x 3.25 x 0.71 inches. All three form factors carry the tristate LED light bar (red, green, amber) and buzzer.
8) How close does a card have to be to the Isonas reader, and how fast does it read?
Typical read range is about 3 inches on RFID cards, with proximity read speed under 250 milliseconds. The metal back plate is part of that: it gives a consistent read range as well as a two piece install and added security at the mounting surface.
9) Will this reader tell me if someone tries to pry it off the wall?
Yes. Tamper detection uses an accelerometer that senses the unit being altered or moved, and the brown pigtail wire is a dedicated tamper output you can run back to the system. Housing is ABS plastic with an SECC metal back plate.
