1) Will the Isonas Pure IP mullion reader fit on a narrow aluminum storefront mullion?
The mullion version measures 5.1 x 1.7 x 0.71 inches, so it sits on a narrow vertical face where a wall-mount reader won't. If you have the room, the wall mount and wall mount keypad versions are both 5.1 x 3.25 x 0.71 inches. Measure the flat of your mullion against 1.7 inches before you drill.
2) Can I use the Isonas Wiegand MCT reader with a non-Isonas access control panel?
It's a standard Wiegand reader with an 8 wire pigtail: white is Wiegand data 1, green is data 0, black ground, red power, plus separate control lines for the red LED (orange), green LED (blue), and beeper (yellow), a brown tamper output and a drain shield ground. Any panel that takes common Wiegand reader wiring and can supply 5 to 16V DC will drive it. Within the Isonas line it works with the PowerNet IP-Bridge and is compatible with Pure Access.
3) What card formats does the Isonas MCT reader read, and will it read our existing HID or MiFare badges?
Multi-card technology covers both 125 kHz (FSK modulation) and 13.56 MHz, so a mixed badge population reads on one device. Named support includes MiFare Classic, Ultralight and MiFare Plus, MiFare DESFire EV2 (secure data, Isonas credentials only), iClass by card serial number, and ISO 14443A, 14443B and 15693. Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 and later is supported for phone credentials through the Isonas mobile app.
4) Can this Isonas reader be mounted outside on an exterior door?
Rated IP55 with an operating range of -40F to 158F (-40C to 70C), so it handles exterior openings, unheated garages and loading docks as well as interior lobbies. IP55 covers dust and low-pressure water jets, not submersion, so don't bury it where it sits under standing water.
5) How much current do I need to budget per door for Isonas Wiegand readers?
Per reader on 5 to 16V DC: the mullion draws 106mA average and 144mA peak, the wall mount 119mA average and 169mA peak, and the wall mount keypad 143mA average and 193mA peak. Size the supply against peak, not average, if you're ganging several readers on one power run.
6) How far away will a badge read on this Isonas reader?
About 3 inches typical on RFID cards, with proximity read speed under 250 milliseconds. That's a present-the-card range, not a hands-free one, so mount it where a user can reach it comfortably rather than expecting a read through a bag at arm's length. The metal back plate is part of why the range stays consistent from door to door.
7) Does the Isonas MCT reader signal a forced removal from the wall?
Tamper detection runs off an accelerometer, so it senses the unit being moved or pried rather than relying only on a backplate switch. That condition reports out on the brown wire in the pigtail, so land it on a supervised input at the panel if you want the alarm to actually annunciate. The two piece design with a metal back plate means the head comes off the plate for service without redoing the wiring.
8) Can the access panel control the LEDs and beeper on this Isonas reader for grant and deny feedback?
Yes, and they're driven independently. Blue is the green LED control line, orange the red LED control line, and yellow the beeper line, all inputs from the panel. The reader carries a tristate LED light bar (red, green, amber) plus a buzzer. If your panel only has one LED output, you get a two state indication instead of the full red/green/amber set.
9) Can I mix these Isonas Wiegand readers with Isonas reader-controllers on the same building?
That's the intended pattern. The Wiegand readers run back to either an Isonas reader-controller or the PowerNet IP-Bridge, so you can standardize on one look at every opening while varying what sits behind the wall, and the mullion, wall mount and wall mount keypad forms cover both US and EU mounting conventions. All of it reports into Pure Access.
10) Can staff use their phones instead of badges with this Isonas reader?
Bluetooth Low Energy is built in, versions 4.1 and later, and works with the Isonas pure mobile application so a smartphone acts as the credential. You don't have to choose, though: the same head still reads 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz cards, so you can move a tenant population to phones gradually while legacy badges keep working.
11) Is the Isonas Wiegand reader approved for commercial installation in the US and Canada?
