1) Will the Isonas Pure IP Wiegand wall mount reader read our existing 125 kHz prox cards, or do we have to reissue credentials?
No reissue needed if your cards are on either common frequency. The Pure IP MCT wall mount reader is multi-card technology, reading 125 kHz (FSK modulation) and 13.56 MHz in the same unit. On the high frequency side it covers MiFare Classic, Ultralight and MiFare Plus, MiFare DESFire EV2 (secure data, Isonas only), iClass CSN, and ISO14443A, ISO14443B and ISO15693. Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 and later is also supported, so a phone can be used as the credential through the Isonas pure mobile app. That combination is what lets a property manager run legacy prox on the old doors and move new users to smart cards or phones without swapping readers again.
2) Can I wire the Isonas Pure IP Wiegand reader to a third-party access control panel?
It terminates in an 8 wire pigtail for common Wiegand reader wiring, so it lands on standard Wiegand reader terminals. The leads are white for Wiegand data 1, green for data 0, red for power at 5-16V DC, black ground, drain for shield ground, blue for green LED control (input), orange for red LED control (input), yellow for beeper control (input), and brown for tamper (output). The LED and beeper lines being separate inputs means your panel drives the tristate light bar and buzzer for its own annunciation. Within Isonas, the reader connects through the PowerNet IP-Bridge and works with Pure Access.
3) What size back box does the Isonas wall mount Wiegand reader fit, and what are its dimensions?
It is a single gang wall mount reader measuring 5.1 x 3.25 x 0.71 inches. Mounting is a two piece job: a metal back plate goes up first, then the reader body, which also keeps read range consistent from door to door. If you are mounting on an aluminum storefront stile rather than a wall, the mullion form factor in the same family measures 5.1 x 1.7 x 0.71 inches and is the one that fits a narrow vertical face. Both form factors support US and EU mounting.
4) Can the Isonas Pure IP Wiegand reader be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The reader is rated IP55 and runs from -40F to 158F (-40C to 70C), which covers exterior doors, unconditioned garages and loading docks in any US climate. Housing is ABS plastic with an SECC metal back plate. It carries FCC, IC and CE certification and is made in the USA. One install note for exterior work: tamper detection is by accelerometer, so it senses the unit being worked on rather than just pried off the plate.
5) Is this Isonas reader a standalone controller, or does it need something else to run the door?
This is a Wiegand reader, not a reader-controller. It reads the credential and passes the data out on the pigtail; the access decision, the door strike output and the database live upstream. In an Isonas system that upstream device is the PowerNet IP-Bridge, managed through Pure Access. Isonas also builds a Pure IP reader-controller that makes the decision at the door, and buildings commonly mix the two, using the controller where a door stands alone and Wiegand readers where they are feeding an existing panel.
6) How much current do I need to budget per door for Isonas Pure IP Wiegand readers?
Size the supply at 169mA peak for each wall mount reader, with 119mA average draw. The mullion version pulls 106mA average and 144mA peak; the wall mount keypad, with its backlit keys, pulls 143mA average and 193mA peak. Input range is 5-16V DC, so a standard 12VDC access control supply works. Peak is the number that matters when several readers share one power supply with strike current on the same board.
7) How close does a card have to be to the Isonas Wiegand reader for it to read?
Typical read range on RFID cards is 3 inches, with proximity read speed under 250 milliseconds. That is a present-the-card range, not a hands-free one, so mount it where a user can reach it comfortably at the pull side of the door. The metal back plate is part of what holds that range consistent across installs, which is why it should not be substituted with a generic plate.
8) Does the Isonas Pure IP Wiegand reader give any feedback to the user at the door?
There is a tristate LED light bar showing red, green or amber, plus a buzzer. Both are driven from your controller over the pigtail: blue controls the green LED, orange the red, and yellow the beeper. So denied, granted and armed states show the way your panel is programmed to show them, rather than being fixed in the reader.
