1) Will the Isonas PowerNet mullion reader-controller fit on a narrow aluminum storefront mullion?
The mullion form factor measures 5.1 x 1.7 x 0.71 inches, so it lands on the narrow face of a typical storefront mullion without overhanging. If you have a wider flat surface or need a keypad, Isonas also builds the same reader in a wall mount and wall mount keypad size of 5.1 x 3.25 x 0.71 inches.
2) Can the Isonas PowerNet mullion reader be mounted outdoors?
Yes. It carries an IP55 exposure rating and operates from -40F to 158F (-40C to 70C), which covers exterior doors, unconditioned garages and loading docks as well as interior openings. It is also FCC, IC and CE certified.
3) What credentials will the Isonas PowerNet reader-controller read besides 125kHz prox cards?
Beyond 125 kHz FSK prox, it reads 13.56MHz credentials including MiFare Classic, Ultralight and MiFare Plus, MiFare DESFire EV2 (secure data, Isonas credentials only), iClass CSN, and ISO14443A, ISO14443B and ISO15693 cards. Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 and later is supported, so a phone can be used as the credential through the Isonas Pure mobile app. That mix lets you run legacy prox badges and migrate to smart cards or mobile on the same hardware.
4) Does the Isonas PowerNet reader need a separate door controller panel?
No. It is a reader-controller, so the access decision is made at the door rather than in a panel closet. It works with Pure Access software. If you would rather keep a panel-style architecture or reuse existing Wiegand readers, Isonas also offers the PowerNet IP-Bridge, which connects standard Wiegand readers into the same Pure IP system so you can mix both approaches in one building.
5) What power does an Isonas PowerNet mullion reader draw, and what voltage does it need?
It runs on 5 to 16 V DC. The mullion version draws 106mA average and 144mA peak. For sizing a supply across a mix of form factors: wall mount is 119mA average / 169mA peak, and the wall mount keypad is 143mA average / 193mA peak.
6) How is the Isonas PowerNet reader wired at the door?
It terminates in an 8 wire pigtail on standard Wiegand color code: white is data 1, green is data 0, black is ground, red is power at 5-16V DC, blue is green LED control, orange is red LED control, yellow is beeper control, brown is tamper output, plus a drain for shield ground. Any electrician who has pulled a Wiegand reader before will recognize the landing.
7) How close does a badge have to be to the Isonas PowerNet prox reader?
Read range is about 3 inches typical on RFID cards, with proximity read speed under 250 milliseconds. The metal back plate keeps that range consistent regardless of what the reader is mounted to, which matters on metal mullions where read range usually suffers.
8) What happens if someone tries to pry the Isonas reader off the wall?
An accelerometer-based tamper sensor detects movement or alteration of the reader and signals through the brown tamper output wire. Physically it is a two piece build, a metal back plate with the reader body over it, using ABS plastic and SECC steel.
9) Can I standardize one look across every door if some openings need a keypad?
Yes. The mullion, wall mount and wall mount keypad versions share the same 5.1 inch height and 0.71 inch depth and the same family styling, so a PIN-required door and a badge-only door match visually. The keypad version is backlit, and all three use a tristate LED light bar (red, green, amber) plus a buzzer for user feedback.
10) Is the Isonas PowerNet reader-controller rated for commercial use, and where is it made?
It is a commercial access control device, hardwired rather than battery powered, and it is made in the USA. Construction is ABS plastic over an SECC metal back plate.
