Product Summary

Simplex Mechanical Pushbutton Locks eliminate problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards.

The Simplex 3000 mechanical pushbutton lock provides exterior access by combination for narrow stile aluminum glass doors. This fully mechanical lock eliminates the material and labor expense of battery replacements, has a single access-code and is programmed via the keypad without removing the lock from the door.

Product Details

No Battery:Fully mechanical lock eliminates the material and labor expense of battery replacements

Number of Codes:Single access code—one easy-to-manage code for all users

Programming:Lock is easily programmed via keypad without removing lock from the door

Handing:Non-handed; required drive assembly is factory-handed, not field reversible

Operation Modes:

  • Pushbutton Access
  • Passage—allows access without using the lock entry code. Feature activated from the outside using cylinder override key.
  • Lockout—disables the lock so that entry code cannot be used to gain access. Access is permitted using the key override only. This is activated from the outside using the cylinder override key.

Economical:A cost effective access control solution

Dormakaba 3001-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Simplex 3001 come with the latch, or do I need to buy an Adams Rite latch separately?
The latch is not included. The 3000 drives an Adams Rite 4510, 4710, or 4910 mortise latch, and you buy that separately. The strike is separate too (dormakaba or Adams Rite). So a complete opening is three line items: the lock, the Adams Rite latch, and the strike. What does ship in the box is the installation instructions, a full-scale template, the combination change key, and a screwdriver.
2) Is a cylinder included with the Simplex 3000 key override, and what kind do I need?
No cylinder ships with the lock. The key override takes a Maximum Security (MS) mortise cylinder, which you order separately and can key alike or keyed different into an existing master key system. That's the usual play for a property manager who wants one building key to open the door regardless of the combination.
3) Does the Simplex 3000 pushbutton lock need batteries or wiring?
Neither. The Simplex 3000 is fully mechanical, so there's no battery to replace and nothing to power. It also means it keeps working through a power outage, which is why it turns up on tenant entries and back-of-house doors where running power isn't practical. Access is by a single code, and the code is changed at the keypad without pulling the lock off the door.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering a Simplex 3000?
Handing matters here, even though the lock itself is non-handed. The drive assembly that goes with it is factory-handed and cannot be reversed in the field, so you specify the hand at order time. Get it wrong and the part has to go back. Confirm right hand, right hand reverse, left hand, or left hand reverse from the outside of the door before you order.
5) What's the difference between the Simplex 3001 and the 3002?
Both give combination entry, key override, passage, and lockout. The 3002 adds a cylinder guard over the override cylinder, which is the version to pick on an exposed exterior opening or anywhere you're worried about someone attacking the cylinder. On a protected interior or vestibule door, the 3001 covers the same functions without it. Both come in 626 Satin Chrome and 695 Dark Bronze.
6) Can I leave the Simplex 3000 unlocked during business hours so people aren't punching a code all day?
Yes, that's the passage mode. You turn it on from the outside with the cylinder override key, and the door then opens without the entry code until you take it back out of passage. There's a lockout mode too, also key-activated from outside, which kills the entry code entirely so only the key gets you in. Handy for shutting a shared code down after hours or after a turnover without reprogramming.
7) How many user codes can the Simplex 3000 hold?
One. The Simplex 3000 is a single-access-code lock, not a multi-user system, so everyone shares the same combination. That's fine for a small tenant space, a maintenance closet, or a rear entry with a handful of people. If you need per-user codes or an audit trail of who came through, this is the wrong device and you want an electronic access control lock instead.
8) Is the Simplex 3000 rated for high traffic commercial use?
It's a Grade 1 commercial lock, the heaviest of the ANSI/BHMA duty grades and the one specified for high-use openings in institutional and commercial buildings. Construction is an all-metal cast front housing with solid metal vandal-resistant pushbuttons and a clutch-protected fixed thumbturn, and it's weather resistant for exterior doors.
9) How do people get out from the inside on a Simplex 3000 door?
By thumbturn. The inside trim is a fixed thumbturn, clutch protected so forcing it doesn't wreck the mechanism, and no code is needed to leave. That's the arrangement on a single narrow stile aluminum door where you want the code on the outside only.
10) Can I match the Simplex 3000 to the dark bronze storefront I already have?
Two finishes are offered: 626 Satin Chrome (26D) and 695 Dark Bronze, the Duranodic 55 tone that matches dark anodized aluminum storefront. Both finishes are available on the 3001 and on the 3002 with the cylinder guard, so you don't have to trade finish against function when standardizing a building.
11) Can I change the combination on a Simplex 3000 without taking the lock off the door?
Yes. The code is changed at the keypad, lock stays mounted, and the combination change key needed to do it ships in the box. For a property manager rotating a code after a tenant moves out, that's a two-minute job at the door with no tools and no reinstallation.

    Solid Lock, But Tricky Setup

Posted by Ian on Oct 5th 2023

I got the dormakaba Simplex 3000 Series Mechanical Combination Lock with Lever from zensupply.com. It's a reliable lock, no doubt. The convenience of a mechanical combo is great, no keys to worry about. But setting the combination can be a bit challenging, especially for those not mechanically inclined. Once it's all set up, though, it works like a charm, providing peace of mind.
