The Dormakaba Simplex 900 Series eliminates the problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards. This fully mechanical pushbutton lock provides reliable access control with free egress at all times via the interior thumbturn - no batteries, no electronics, no service calls.
Deadbolt models must be manually relocked. Deadlocking spring latch models automatically relock each time the door closes. A single access code is programmed directly via the keypad without removing the lock from the door.

1) Will the Dormakaba Simplex 900 pushbutton lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes, but door thickness is decided by which latch you order, not by adjusting the lock at the door. Simplex 900 latches are built for two ranges: 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 inches (35 to 38 mm) and 1-3/4 to 2-1/8 inches (44 to 54 mm). A standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door takes one of the 1-3/4 to 2-1/8 inch versions. Both locking devices are offered in each range, so you can have the 1 inch deadbolt or the 5/8 inch spring latch on a 1-3/4 inch door. Measure the leaf first, including any applied plate or cladding, because the range is part of the part you select.
2) What backset does a Simplex 900 pushbutton lock need on an outswing exterior door?
Backset on the Simplex 900 depends on swing: 2-9/16 inches (65 mm) for outswing doors and 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) for inswing. That is not a standard 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch bored-lock backset, so an existing knob or lever prep will not line up and the door gets bored to the Simplex template. Strike hardware follows the same split. The lock comes with a strike plate for outswing doors and a cast box strike for inswing doors.
3) Simplex 900 deadbolt or deadlocking spring latch, which one should I order?
It comes down to who relocks the door. The 1 inch (25 mm) deadbolt has to be thrown by hand every time, so it suits a door that is secured deliberately at close of business or on a storage or equipment room someone locks behind them. The 5/8 inch deadlocking spring latch relocks itself every time the door shuts, which is what you want on a door people pass through all day and will not remember to lock. Both are entered with the same single keypad code, and the inside stays free egress through the thumbturn either way.
4) Does the Simplex 900 pushbutton lock have to be ordered left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The Simplex 900 latch is field reversible, and the lock is simply inverted for a right hand door. The roman numerals on the keypad read correctly in either orientation, so the code entry is not upside down after you flip it. What you do have to get right at order time is door thickness range, swing (it sets the backset and the strike), and whether you want the deadbolt or the spring latch.
5) I am putting a Simplex 900 on a hollow metal frame. What else do I have to order?
Metal door frames need a surface mortise box strike or an adapter kit, which is an option rather than what ships in the box. The included hardware is a strike plate for outswing doors and a cast box strike for inswing, and the cast box strike is meant to be mortised into a wood frame. There is a model option specifically for this, a surface-mounted strike box for metal door frames, and it can be combined with the 2-1/2 inch lever option if you want a lever inside as well. Sort the frame out before the install date, not on the ladder.
6) Does the Simplex 900 replace the lever lockset on the door or go on in addition to it?
The Simplex 900 is an auxiliary lock. Outside there is a keypad and no lever or knob to grab, so it does not latch a door the way a lockset does, and it does not give you a pull. Inside there is a thumbturn, or a 2-1/2 inch (64 mm) lever if you order that option, and it releases at any time for free egress. On a door that still needs a handle and a latch for normal use, the existing lockset stays and the Simplex 900 adds coded access alongside it. On a door where nobody needs a handle, such as a storeroom or a mechanical room, it can go on its own.
7) Can a Dormakaba Simplex 900 be keyed into an existing master key system?
Key override models support master-keyed systems and can be keyed alike or keyed differently. They are ordered as part of the latch selection, offered with the 1 inch deadbolt and with the 5/8 inch spring latch in either door thickness range. Override models come with or without a cylinder, so a locksmith holding the building's system can pin and supply the cylinder rather than take what the factory sends. The override is a bypass, meaning a key gets you in when the combination is not known or has been changed.
8) Can I hold a Simplex 900 unlocked during business hours and let it lock itself at night?
Latch holdback does exactly that. It keeps the latch retracted so the door is free passage while you are open, and the combination is still required to release the holdback, so a passerby cannot put the door back into a locked state or take it out of one. Holdback is a latch option chosen at order time on the deadlocking spring latch versions, which are offered with holdback or without, in both the 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 inch and 1-3/4 to 2-1/8 inch door thickness ranges. Models 927 and 929 are the D.O.D. compliant configuration in the Simplex 900 family. Two things narrow the spec on those: they come in 626 Satin Chrome only, so Satin Brass is off the table if the facility standard calls for D.O.D., and they are built for particular door thickness ranges rather than the full spread the standard models cover. Pin down the leaf thickness before the requisition goes in.
11) Can a Simplex 900 pushbutton lock be used on a door that has a panic bar?
There is a panic bar release kit for it, and it is specified as a model option that adds the kit to a spring latch version. So if the opening has an exit device and you need the pushbutton lock to work with it, order a 5/8 inch spring latch model with the panic bar release kit rather than one of the deadbolt configurations. The kit is chosen on the order, not fitted afterward.
