1) Will the Dormakaba Simplex EE1000 pushbutton lock fit a 2-inch thick door?
Standard EE1000 covers 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors, but anything over 2 inches needs the modified lock, and that has to be called out on the order. Under 1-3/4 inches it won't work at all. Door prep is ASA 161 with extra through bores, so a plain 161 prep from an existing cylindrical lock needs the additional holes drilled.
2) Is the Simplex EE1000 handed, and can I use it on a right-hand door?
It ships factory-handed left, and it reverses in the field, so one part number covers both hands. You do not order a right-hand version. Plan on doing the reversal at install rather than assuming it arrives ready for a right-hand opening.
3) Will the Simplex EE1000 latch into the strike that's already in my frame?
Backset is 2-3/4 inches, which is the standard commercial bored backset, and the standard latch throws 1/2 inch. A 3/4 inch throw latch with a beveled face plate is the other locking device option if you need more throw into a worn or slightly out-of-plumb frame. Both a standard strike plate and an ASA strike plate are covered, so an existing ASA-prepped frame works without patching.
4) Can I put a Simplex pushbutton lock on an aluminum storefront door?
Only if the stile is at least 5 inches. The EE1000 is a cylindrical lock with cast front and back housings and knobs on both sides, and it needs that much stile face to land on. Narrow and medium stile storefront doors are typically well under 5 inches, so on those you want a narrow stile device rather than a bored pushbutton lock.
5) Which key override cylinder do I order to match the rest of my building's keying?
Five override options, and you pick to match your existing keyway: B for SFIC (Best and equivalents, 6 or 7-pin), C for Corbin Russwin LFIC (6-pin), M for Medeco/ASSA/Yale/Abloy LFIC (5 or 6-pin), R for Sargent LFIC, and S for Schlage LFIC. Cores are not included on any of them, so order cores separately from your keying supplier. On this entry/egress model you specify the override on both the entry side and the egress side.
6) Can the Simplex EE1000 go on a fire-rated door?
The cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating on A labeled doors. Nothing in the lock is battery powered, so there is no power supply or battery box to detail into a fire assembly.
7) What is the difference between an entry/egress Simplex and a standard one-sided pushbutton lock?
Entry/egress means keypads on both faces: you punch a code to get in and punch a code to get out. That is the configuration for a secured room where you also control who leaves the space, like a stockroom, records room, or a mechanical space off a corridor. A single-sided Simplex only controls entry and lets anyone out by turning the knob. If free egress is what your occupancy requires, the entry/egress version is the wrong choice.
8) How many user codes does the Simplex EE1000 hold, and how do I change the code?
One access code, shared by everyone who uses the door. Reprogramming is done through the keypad with the lock still mounted, so a property manager can rotate the code after a turnover or a contractor leaves without pulling the lock or calling a locksmith. If you need per-user codes and an audit trail, a single-code mechanical lock is not the right tool.
9) Is the Simplex EE1000 heavy-duty enough for a high-traffic commercial door?
It's a Grade 1 commercial lock with cast front and back housings, cast knobs, and vandal resistant solid metal pushbuttons. Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA durability tier for bored locks and the one specified for institutional and high-use openings.
10) What do I have to buy on top of the Simplex EE1000 to finish the job?
The interchangeable cores. Every key override option, SFIC or LFIC, is supplied without a core so it can be keyed into your existing system. Strike plates are covered, standard or ASA. No power, no wiring, no batteries, so there is nothing electrical to run to the opening.
11) What finishes does the Simplex EE1000 come in to match my other door hardware?
Four: 626 satin chrome and 609 antique brass as the standard pair, plus 625 bright chrome and 605 bright brass as options. 626 is the usual match for commercial lever and knob hardware already in most buildings; 605 and 625 are the brights if the openings are finished in polished hardware.
12) Does a Simplex mechanical pushbutton lock lose access if the power goes out?
