1) Will the Simplex 1000 pushbutton knob lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The Simplex 1000 Series mechanical pushbutton knob lock covers doors from 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inches thick, and it ships pre-assembled for the 1-5/8 to 2 inch range, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door needs no thickness adjustment out of the box. Thinner or thicker doors inside that range require resetting the lock for thickness during install.
2) Will this Simplex pushbutton lock work on an aluminum storefront or narrow stile door?
No. This is a wide stile cylindrical lock with a 5 inch minimum stile, so a typical narrow stile aluminum storefront door will not take it. It needs a door with at least 5 inches of stile at the lock edge, which in practice means a hollow metal, wood, or wide stile door. For a glass front opening with a narrower stile, you need a narrow stile device instead.
3) Can the Simplex 1000 replace an existing cylindrical knob lock without redrilling the door?
In most cases yes, if the existing prep is a 2-3/4 inch backset. The Simplex 1000 is a cylindrical bored lock and is offered in 2-3/4 inch backset with either a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch throw latch, plus a 2-3/8 inch backset with a 1/2 inch throw. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore before ordering and pick the matching backset option, since backset is set by the latch you order. 4) Do I get a core with the key override, or do I have to order one separately?
The core is not included with any override option. You are buying the lock with the housing prepped for your core format, whether that is SFIC for BEST and equivalents or LFIC for Corbin Russwin, Medeco/ASSA/Yale/Abloy, Sargent, or Schlage. Yes. The cylindrical latch carries a 3 hour UL/ULC fire rating for A labeled doors, so it can go on a 3 hour rated opening such as a stairwell or a corridor cross door. The lock also allows free egress from the inside, which is what a rated egress door requires.
6) Does the Simplex 1000 lock the door behind you, or does it stay unlocked?
Both, depending on how you set it. The function is combination entry/passage with key override: outside access is by punching the code, and it can be held in passage so the door stays free during business hours, then returned to locked. It works on either hand. The lock arrives factory handed for left hand doors and is field reversible without special tools, so one part number covers both swings. Reverse it on site before mounting if the opening is right hand.
