The Simplex 5000 Series provides exterior access by combination, while allowing free egress. This fully mechanical lock elimates the material and labor expense of battery replacements, has a single access-code and is programmed via the keypad without removing the lock from the door. The lock is available in a wide range of configurations.

1) What does the passage function on the Simplex 5041 pushbutton lock actually do?
The 504x models combine combination entry, key override, exterior combination change, and passage. Passage means you can hold the lock in an unlocked state so the knob turns freely without entering the code, which is how you handle business hours or a daytime door, then return it to combination-only for after hours. Access from outside is by a single access code; egress from inside is always free.
2) Will the Simplex 5041WK fit my door thickness and backset?
Door range is 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, and the lock ships pre-assembled for 1-5/8 inch to 2 inch doors, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door needs no adjustment. Backset is your choice at order time: 2-3/4 inch (the standard commercial backset) or 2-3/8 inch. Minimum stile recommended is 5 inches, so it will not suit a narrow stile aluminum door.
3) Will this Simplex latch into the strike that's already in my frame?
Standard latch throw is 1/2 inch, which drops into a normal cylindrical strike in an ASA 161 prep. If your frame has a deeper strike pocket or the door and frame gap is wide, order the 2-3/4 inch backset with the 3/4 inch throw latch instead. Door prep is ASA 161 with additional through holes for the pushbutton housing, so an existing 161 bored door needs those extra holes drilled from the template.
4) Can I key this Simplex into my existing master key system?
Yes, through the key override cylinder, and you pick the format when you order. Small format interchangeable core (Best and equivalents, 6 or 7 pin) is option B. Large format removable core is available for Corbin Russwin (6 or 7 pin), Medeco/ASSA/Yale/Abloy (5 or 6 pin), Sargent, and Schlage. Cores are not included on any of those, so pull them from your own system. If you have no existing system, the key-in-lever options include a dormakaba 1599 6-pin cylinder prepped to either the dormakaba 90 keyway or Schlage C, keyed different.
5) Can this go on a fire rated door?
Yes. The Simplex 5000 Series carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for "A" labeled doors. It is also a Grade 1 cylindrical lock, which is the heaviest commercial duty level.
6) Which Simplex 5000 model should I pick, 5021, 5031, 5041, or 5051?
All four are combination entry with key override, and the split is where you change the code and whether you get passage. The 502x changes the combination from outside. The 503x changes it from the inside and is D.O.D. 5220.22M compliant. The 504x is exterior combination change plus passage. The 505x is interior change, D.O.D. compliant, plus passage. If you need the door to sit unlocked during business hours, you want a 504x or 505x; if the facility requires the code changed only from the secure side, go 503x or 505x.
7) Is this knob or lever, and does it meet ADA?
The 5041WK is the knob version. Dormakaba states ADA compliance for the Simplex 5000 Series with ADA-compliant levers, so if the opening has to meet ADA operable-hardware requirements, specify a lever model rather than the knob.
8) Does the Simplex 5000 need to be ordered handed?
No. It is non-handed. It comes pre-assembled for a left-hand door and you swap it in the field for right-hand, no parts to order.
9) Does the Simplex 5041 need batteries or wiring?
Neither. It is a fully mechanical pushbutton lock, no power, no wiring, no batteries to change. Programming is done through the keypad with the lock still on the door, using one access code shared by all users. That makes it a fit for remote doors, gates to mechanical rooms, and any opening where running power is not worth it.
10) Will the pushbuttons hold up on an exterior or high-abuse door?
The buttons are vandal resistant metal, and the housings are brass or bronze. Dormakaba also lists the Simplex 5000 as weather resistant under its D.O.D. 5220.22M compliance. It installs on wood or metal doors.
11) What comes in the box with the Simplex 5041WK?
Lock assembly, installation manual, full scale template, and the required mounting hardware. What is not in the box: on any of the interchangeable or removable core options (Best SFIC, Corbin Russwin, Medeco/ASSA/Yale/Abloy, Sargent, Schlage) the core itself is supplied separately. 12) What finishes does the Simplex 5041 come in for matching the rest of my building?
Five: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 744 dark bronze with brass accents. Satin chrome 626 is the usual match for commercial openings already running 626 lever sets and closers.
