Free Keying on all locks

Simplex Mechanical Pushbutton Locks eliminate problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards.

The Simplex 5000 Series provides exterior access by combination, while allowing free egress. This fully mechanical lock elimates the material and labor expense of battery replacements, has a single access-code and is programmed via the keypad without removing the lock from the door. The lock is available in a wide range of configurations.

DEFAULT OPTION SELECTION

The default option selections have been made based on the most commonly ordered configuration. If a model shows as backordered, it's likely ZenSupply has additional parts/accessories on hand to "build" the product and therefore ship the product faster.

Dormakaba 5055XS-WK-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dormakaba Simplex 5051WK fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The Simplex 5051WK pushbutton knob lock covers door thicknesses from 1-3/8 inches up to 2-1/4 inches, which takes in the 1-3/4 inch standard commercial door and the 1-3/8 inch older interior door. It ships pre-assembled for 1-5/8 to 2 inch doors, so a 1-3/4 inch door needs no adjustment out of the box; thinner or thicker openings inside the range require resetting the spindle length during install.
2) What does the passage function on the Simplex 5051WK actually do compared to a straight combination lock?
Passage means the knob can be left in a free-turning state so the door opens without entering the code, which is what you want on an office or stockroom that is open during business hours and locked after. The 5051WK is the passage-equipped model in the 5000 Series; the 503x models give you combination entry, key override and interior combination change without the passage feature, and the 502x/504x models change the code from the exterior instead. Exterior access is by a single mechanical combination, egress from the inside is always free.
3) Is the Simplex 5051WK approved for a government facility with DOD access control requirements?
The 5051WK is D.O.D. compliant to 5220.22M for supplemental access control, and it changes its combination from the interior side, which is the arrangement DOD work calls for. It also carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for "A" labeled doors and meets ADA. Grade 1 for commercial traffic.
4) Will the Simplex 5051WK latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It depends on which latch you order. The standard build is a 2-3/4 inch backset with a 1/2 inch throw latch, and there is a 2-3/8 inch backset option with the same 1/2 inch throw plus a 2-3/4 inch backset with a 3/4 inch throw. Measure from the door edge to the center of the existing bore to pick the backset; 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 are the two usual ones. The door prep is ASA 161 with additional through holes, so an existing 161 prep takes it with the extra holes drilled from the template.
5) Can I put a Simplex 5000 pushbutton lock on an aluminum storefront door?
Only if the stile is wide enough. The 5051WK needs a minimum 5 inch stile, which rules out most narrow stile aluminum storefront doors. It installs on wood or metal doors with ASA 161 prep. For a narrow stile glass door you want a narrow stile exit device with a pushbutton trim rather than a cylindrical knob lock.
6) Does the Simplex 5051WK work with my existing Best SFIC cores or Schlage keyway?
Key override is a choose-at-order option on the 5051WK, and it covers most master key systems already in the field. Small format interchangeable core for Best and equivalents in 6 or 7 pin comes as option B, core not included. Large format removable core options are Corbin Russwin 6 or 7 pin, Medeco/ASSA/Yale/Abloy 5 or 6 pin, Sargent, and Schlage, all core not included. If you are not tying into a core system, the XK and XS options ship with a Kaba key-in-lever cylinder already in them, XK on the Kaba 90 keyway and XS on the Schlage C keyway.
7) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand Simplex 5051WK?
No handing to specify. The lock is non-handed and arrives pre-assembled for a left hand door; swapping it to right hand is done in the field during install, no parts to order. One SKU covers both swings, which is what makes it easy to standardize across a building where the openings swing both ways.
8) What comes in the box with a Simplex 5051WK, and what do I still have to buy?
The carton holds the lock assembly, the installation manual, a full scale template and the required mounting hardware, so a single opening is a one-box job. What is not in the box is the core if you order any of the interchangeable or removable core key override options (B, C, M, R and S all ship core not included, so pin those from your own system). The XK and XS options are the exception and include a Kaba key-in-lever cylinder. Strikes for the existing frame and any door prep tooling are separate.
9) How do you change the code on a Simplex 5051WK, and does the lock have to come off the door?
Programming is done through the keypad with the lock still mounted, so no removal and no wiring. The 5051WK changes its combination from the interior side, which means someone has to be inside the secured space to reset it. There is one access code for all users, which keeps administration simple but also means you reprogram whenever anyone with the code leaves. If you need to change the code from the outside of the door instead, that is the 502x or 504x model.
10) Does the Simplex 5051WK need batteries or power at the door?
No power of any kind. It is fully mechanical, so there is no battery to replace, no transformer, no wire pull to the frame, and it keeps working through an outage. That removes the recurring battery labor a property manager carries on an electronic keypad fleet, and it is why these show up on remote gates, utility rooms and outbuildings where getting power to the opening is the expensive part.
11) Is the Simplex 5051WK keypad going to hold up outdoors and against abuse?
The pushbuttons are metal and vandal resistant, and the lock is rated weather resistant under its D.O.D. 5220.22M compliance. Housings are brass or bronze. Grade 1 puts it at the commercial duty level for high traffic openings.
12) Should I use a mechanical pushbutton lock or an electronic keypad lock for a stockroom?
A mechanical pushbutton lock like the 5051WK is the choice when you want one code, no maintenance, and no infrastructure. It carries a single access code, cannot audit who came through, and cannot be reprogrammed remotely. An electronic keypad gives you multiple user codes and audit trail but adds batteries and a replacement cycle. For a stockroom, mechanical room or storage area with a small stable group of people, mechanical is fewer moving parts; for a space where you have to remove one person's access without changing everyone's code, go electronic.
13) Is the Simplex 5051WK a knob or a lever, and does that affect ADA compliance?
The 5051WK is the knob version of the 5000 Series. Dormakaba states ADA compliance for the series with its ADA-compliant levers, so if your facility is enforcing accessible operable parts on that opening, specify the lever model rather than the knob. Knob trim is normally fine on doors outside the accessible route, such as a mechanical room or a door serving employees only.
14) What finishes does the Dormakaba Simplex 5000 pushbutton knob lock come in to match the rest of my building's hardware?
Five finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 744 dark bronze with brass accents. 626 satin chrome is the usual match for commercial openings already running satin chrome or brushed lever sets, and 744 is the one to pick against dark bronze storefront and exterior hardware.
