Simplex Mechanical Pushbutton Locks eliminate problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards.

The Simplex 5000 Series provides exterior access by combination, while allowing free egress. Dormakaba 5041XS-WL-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Simplex 5000 pushbutton lever lock drop into the door prep from the cylindrical lockset I am taking off?
Mostly, if the opening is a standard bored prep. The 504x installs on wood or metal doors using ASA 161 preparation plus additional through holes for the pushbutton housing, so an existing bored door normally needs those extra holes drilled. A full scale template comes in the box for laying them out. Backset is your choice of 2-3/4 or 2-3/8 inches, which are the two backsets used on commercial bored locks, and the latch is a 1/2 inch throw as standard with a 3/4 inch throw available if your existing strike sits deeper in the frame.
2) Will a Simplex 5000 pushbutton lever lock fit an aluminum storefront door with a narrow stile?
Not a narrow stile door. The 504x wants a minimum 5 inch stile, and the keypad housing, lock body and lever all have to live in that width. A typical narrow stile at around 2 inches or a medium stile at 3-1/2 inches will not take it, and there is no slimmer version of this configuration. On a wide stile aluminum door at 5 inches or more it goes in the same way it does on wood or hollow metal, through an ASA 161 prep with additional through holes.
3) Does the Simplex 5041WL come with a key cylinder, or do I have to supply the core separately?
Depends which override you order. The two key-in-lever versions include the cylinder in the lock: XK is supplied with a dormakaba cylinder on the Kaba 90 keyway, XS with one on the Schlage C keyway. The five interchangeable core versions ship without a core, on purpose, so you fit your own: B for small format Best and equivalents in 6 or 7-pin, C for Corbin Russwin large format in 6 or 7-pin, M for Medeco, ASSA, Yale or Abloy in 5 or 6-pin, R for Sargent, S for Schlage. Pick the core prep first, then decide whether you need a core on the order.
4) Does the Simplex 5041WL have a passage function so the door can be left unlocked during business hours?
That is what the 504x adds over the base combination models. Passage is switched on from the inside with a thumbturn or key, which is included with every passage-feature model, and while it is on people walk through without entering the code. Switch it back and the door is on code entry only. The 504x also carries key override and exterior combination change, so the function is combination entry plus passage with a key override behind it.
5) Can I put a Simplex 5000 pushbutton lock on the master key system we already run in the building?
The core prep options are there for that. Order the 504x as B, C, M, R or S and it arrives prepped to accept a core from your own system with no core supplied, so your locksmith pins it to the building keying. If you are not on an interchangeable core system, the key-in-lever versions come with a dormakaba 1599 6-pin cylinder prepped to either the dormakaba 90 or Schlage C keyway, keyed different, and dormakaba supplies tailpieces so the lever will take key-in-lever cylinders from a range of other manufacturers including Schlage, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, Medeco, ASSA and Abloy.
6) Is the Dormakaba Simplex 5041WL handed, and can I use the same one on a right-hand door?
Non-handed. It comes pre-assembled for a left-hand door and swaps to right hand in the field during installation, so there is no separate part number and no handing to declare when you order. That matters on a fleet buy: one item covers every opening in the building whichever way the doors swing.
7) Can I change the access code on a Simplex 5000 mechanical pushbutton lock myself after a tenant moves out?
Code changes happen at the keypad with the lock still on the door, no removal and no programmer. On the 504x the change is made from the exterior side, so you can do it standing outside the unit. It runs a single access code, one combination shared by everyone who uses that door, so there is nothing to issue or collect per person. If your policy requires the code to be changed only from the secure side of the door, that is a different configuration within the Simplex 5000 range, not this one.

The Simplex 5000 carries a 3-hour UL and ULC fire rating for A label doors, with the condition that where an exit device is part of the installation it has to be an existing fire rated device. In the bored cylindrical form covered here you are going into ASA 161 prep on a wood or metal door, not onto a device. Because the lock is fully mechanical with no battery and no wiring, a power failure in the building does not change how the opening behaves.
9) We need keyless entry on classroom and office doors without running power. Does the Simplex 5000 lever lock meet accessibility requirements?
