1) Will the Dormakaba Simplex L1000 pushbutton lever lock fit my existing 161 door prep?
Yes. The Simplex L1000 installs into standard ASA 161 door prep on wood or metal doors, with additional through holes drilled for the lock body. Backsets are 2-3/4 inch and 2-3/8 inch, so it lands on the same bore centers as the cylindrical lockset you're pulling off. Minimum stile recommended is 5 inches, so a narrow stile aluminum door is out.
2) Do I have to order the Simplex L1000 handed, or can I flip it on the job?
Handed, and you cannot flip it. The Simplex L1000 is factory-handed and not field reversible, so you specify left hand or right hand on the order. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it's a right hand lock. Getting this wrong means a return, not a field fix.
3) Will the Simplex L1000 latch reach my existing strike on a rabbeted or misaligned frame?
Standard is a 1/2 inch (13 mm) throw latch, and a 3/4 inch (19 mm) throw latch is available if you need more reach, for example a frame that has settled or a gap wider than a standard cylindrical lock likes. Both work with a standard strike plate or an ASA strike plate, so it drops onto the strike prep already in most commercial frames.
4) Can the Simplex L1000 be left unlocked during business hours?
Yes, that's the passage function. From the inside you flip the lock to passage with a thumbturn or key (included on every passage-feature model), and the lever then opens the door without anyone entering the code. Lock it back at close and the code is required again. Egress is always free from the inside regardless of mode.
5) Is this Simplex pushbutton lock battery powered, and what happens in a power outage?
There is no battery and no power. The Simplex L1000 is fully mechanical, so an outage or a dead cell can't lock anybody out or leave the door open. That's the main reason facilities buy it over an electronic keypad lock: no battery replacement labor across a building full of doors.
6) Does this LR1031 version take a key override cylinder?
No. This configuration is combination only, with no key cylinder. Access is by pushbutton code, plus the inside thumbturn or key for the passage feature. No. Minimum recommended stile is 5 inches, and a typical narrow stile aluminum entrance doesn't give you that. For a glass front opening you want a device built for narrow stile, not this cylindrical lockset. On a wide stile aluminum door, a wood door or a hollow metal door with 5 inches or more of stile, it installs into ASA 161 prep.
