2000 Series Electromagnetic locks

Model 2012

2012 Double Outswinging Door
Single coil with double (split) armature. Mounts to the underside of the frame header. Recommended for traffic control only. 600 Lbs. holding force per leaf

The 2000 Series is a full size 1200 lbs. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. Specify for commercial, industrial, or institutional openings when low cost and highsecurity are required

All 2000 Series locks are designed for ease of installation with adjustable mounting, field selectable voltage, and convenient wiring compartments. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”.
The 2000 Series is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically bonded to the lock face, thus securing the door without utilizing any moving parts.

Standard Features

• Internal wiring compartment includes built-in circuit board attached to access cover to provide a convenient, plug in, concealed area for wiring connections.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operation cost, and extends battery backup time.
• A totally plated coil and armature provides protection against corrosion.
• A narrow backset of 1-1/2” may mean the elimination of other mounting brackets or filler plates.
• No residual magnetism - the door releases without delay when lock is de-energized.
• Multiple sensor and monitor options increases flexibility, security and compatibility with system equipment.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the lock is de-energized.
• Lifetime Warranty - American Made in the USA by DynaLock, with over 20 years experience in the manufacture of electromagnetic locks.

DynaLock 2012 628 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2012 mag lock work on a pair of outswinging doors?
That is exactly what the 2012 is built for. It uses a single coil with a double (split) armature mounted under the frame header, so one lock body covers both leaves of a double outswinging door. Holding force is 600 lbs per leaf. DynaLock recommends it for traffic control only, so if you need full high security on both leaves, use two separate single-door magnets instead.
2) How much clearance do I need under the header for a 2000 Series surface mount magnet?
Plan on 1-1/2 inches of depth. The lock body measures 1-1/2 inch D x 2-3/4 inch H x 11 inch L for a single and 22 inch L for a double. That narrow 1-1/2 inch backset often lets you skip filler plates or extra mounting brackets on a standard frame header.
3) I need a magnetic lock on a pair of doors instead of a single opening - what should I use?
The DynaLock 2012 is a single coil with a double (split) armature that mounts to the underside of the frame header on a double outswinging door, giving 600 lbs. holding force per leaf. If you would rather run a purpose-built double-door magnet, the Alarm Controls 1200D Series is a double magnetic lock, and the Dorma EML320 is a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. that is fire rated and electrically locked (fail safe).
4) Does the DynaLock 2012 provide delayed egress?
The DynaLock 2012 is a single electromagnetic lock with an adjustable relock time delay standard on all 2000 Series models, which controls relocking rather than egress timing. Where the opening calls for delayed egress, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door.
5) The DynaLock 2012 is recommended for traffic control only - what do I use where I need a higher rated magnet?
The 2012 uses a single coil split between two armatures and DynaLock recommends it for traffic control, at 600 lbs. per leaf. Where you want more holding force per opening, the Dorma EML310 single door magnet is 1500 lb. and fire rated, offered with a door position sensor and optionally with bond alert, and the Schlage M390RFK is a 1500 lbs. heavy duty electromagnetic lock with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay. For a shear application, the ROFU 8031-002 is a 2200 lb. monitored shear lock at 12/24VDC.
6) Do I have to order the DynaLock 2012 for 12V or 24V?
No voltage decision at order time on the standard coil. The 2000 Series is multi-voltage auto-sensing 12/24 VAC/VDC, field selectable. Draw is 374 mA at 12VDC single / 748 mA double, and 210 mA at 12VDC... use these figures for sizing: 210 mA at 24VDC single, 420 mA double. If you specify the low power coil option, that coil is 12V only at .16 amps for a single lock.
7) What is the low power coil option on the DynaLock 2012 for?
It cuts current to .16 amps on a single lock, but it locks you into 12V only. Choose it when you are running many magnets off one supply or stretching battery backup runtime. The standard coil stays dual voltage 12/24 VAC/VDC. Both are orderable configurations of the 2012.
8) Do I need separate door contacts for monitoring a DynaLock 2000 Series mag lock?
Not if you specify the sensor options. The 2000 Series offers optional integrated door and lock status sensors so the access control panel can see door position and magnetic bond without a separate door contact installed in the frame. Adjustable relock time delay (the former TD option) is standard on every model.
9) Is a magnetic lock like the DynaLock 2012 fail safe on a power loss?
Yes. An electromagnet holds the door only while energized, and the 2012 has no residual magnetism, so the door releases without delay the moment power drops. There are no moving parts in the hold, the armature simply bonds to the lock face. Built-in spike suppression protects the rest of the solid state gear in the system when the lock de-energizes.
10) Is the DynaLock 2012 a substitute for a shear lock or a sliding door magnet?
No. The DynaLock 2012 is a surface mount magnet whose coil and housing mount to the frame header while the armature mounts to the door leaf, for outswinging doors. A shear application needs a shear lock such as the ROFU 8031-002, rated 2200 LB at 12/24VDC and monitored, and a sliding door needs a mortised unit such as the Schlage 320M compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock at 1500 lbs holding force.
11) Is the DynaLock 2012 rated for a fire door?
The 2000 Series is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames, and DynaLock builds it for commercial, industrial and institutional openings. Note the 2012 split armature model specifically is recommended for traffic control only, which matters when you are writing it into a life safety opening.
12) How does the DynaLock armature handle a door that does not hang perfectly true?
The coil and housing bolt rigidly to the frame, while the armature mounts to the door so it can pivot slightly and take up door irregularities. Mounting is adjustable, and wiring lands in an internal compartment with a plug-in circuit board on the access cover, so you are not splicing inside the frame.
