DynaLock 2101 Series Early Warning Trigger Electromagnetic Lock  1200Lb. 

The 2101 Series is a full size 1200 lbs. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for medium to high security on outswinging doors when there is a need for a signal during an egress attempt. The early warning trigger (EWT) senses door movement while the electromagnet remains
locked. Specify for use with delayed egress controllers on commercial, industrial, and institutional openings. In a typical installation, the door is normally closed and latched by the existing mechanical door hardware and magnetically secured by the 2101 Lock. Attempting to exit by applying 15Lbs. or less pressure to the door will cause the door to become unlatched, activating the EWT. This sensor can be used to signal a security officer or an automated controller. Delayed egress controllers, such as the DynaLock model #3101B-ES, sound an audible alarm when there is an egress attempt, allowing the door to open only after a set time has elapsed. A built-in door status monitor (DSM) eliminates the need for separate door contacts.

DynaLock 2101 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2101 mag lock work on an inswing door?
No. The 2101 is a surface mounted electromagnet for outswing doors only. On an inswing opening you need a different mounting approach, such as a shear lock like the ROFU 8031-002 or a mortise style unit like the Schlage Electronics 320M, rather than this surface magnet.
2) What does the early warning trigger on the 2101 actually do?
It senses door movement while the magnet stays locked. With the door normally closed and latched by the existing mechanical hardware, pushing on it with 15 lbs or less pressure unlatches the door and trips the EWT sensor, which can signal a security officer or feed a controller. The magnet itself does not release; it only drops when de-energized.
3) Do I need a separate delayed egress controller with the 2101?
Yes, if you want the timed release and local alarm. The 2101 provides the egress sensor output only; a controller such as the DynaLock 3101B-ES sounds the audible alarm and holds the door for the set delay before allowing exit.
4) Can I run the DynaLock 2101 on 12VDC or 24VDC, and what is the current draw?
Both, field selectable. Draw is 374 mA at 12VDC and 210 mA at 24VDC, so on 24V you can size a smaller supply and get longer battery backup runtime.
5) What if my power supply is AC instead of DC?
AC operation requires a rectifier. The 2101 can be ordered with the pre-wired rectifier bridge for 12/24 VAC operation, or without it if you are feeding DC. The rectifier is DynaLock part 7088.
6) How much frame depth do I need for the 2101, and will I need mounting brackets?
The lock body measures 1-1/2 inch D x 2-3/4 inch H x 11 inch L. That 1-1/2 inch thin lock section is narrow enough that on many frames it mounts directly without additional brackets.
7) The DynaLock 2101 is for a single leaf. What should I use on a pair of doors?
The 2101 is a single full size 1200 lb. electromagnet measuring 1-1/2 in. D x 2-3/4 in. H x 11 in. L for one leaf. For a pair, the Alarm Controls 1200D Series is a double magnetic lock, and the Dorma EML320 is a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. and fire rated with a fail safe electrically locked function. Note that neither of those carries the 2101 early warning trigger, so an egress-signal pair opening would need two 2101 units instead.
8) Does the 2101 need separate door contacts for monitoring?
No. A door status monitor is built in alongside the early warning sensor, so you get door position and egress-attempt outputs from the lock itself without adding a separate contact.
9) Is 1200 lbs of holding force enough for a commercial exit door?
1200 lbs is full size holding force, rated by DynaLock for medium to high security on commercial, industrial and institutional outswing openings. If your spec calls for more, the Dormakaba EML310 and Schlage M390RFK are 1500 lb single door magnets; the Schlage M420 at 500 lbs is a lighter interior option.
10) What is the difference between the DynaLock 2101 and a self-contained delayed egress mag lock?
The 2101 supplies the sensing only, so the timing and alarm live in an external controller. If you would rather have the delay logic inside the lock housing, the Alarm Controls 1200DE is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door. Choose the 2101 when the delay function is handled by your access control panel or an off-site system.
11) Will the 2101 hold a pair of doors?
No. It is a single full size magnet. For a pair you need a double magnet unit such as the Alarm Controls 1200D or the Dormakaba EML320 double door lock, or two single magnets.
12) Is the 2101 a fail safe lock that unlocks on power loss?
Yes. It is an electromagnet, so it holds only while energized and drops the moment power is removed, with no residual magnetism. Tie it into your fire alarm relay so the opening releases on alarm.
13) Is there a slimmer or lighter duty magnetic lock than the DynaLock 2101 for an interior door?
The 2101 has a 1-1/2 in. thin lock section and an 11 in. length at 1200 lbs. of holding force. For lower traffic interior openings, the Dortronics 1107 is a narrow 2 in. slim line 600 lb. single door mag lock, and the Schlage M420 is a 500 lbs. holding force single door electromagnetic lock. Both give up the 2101 early warning egress sensor and its built-in door status monitor.
14) Do I need to add door contacts if I choose the DynaLock 2101, and how does that compare with other magnets?
No. The 2101 includes a built-in door status monitor along with the early warning sensor, which eliminates separate door contacts. Among the alternatives, the Dortronics 1000 Series includes an SPDT door position switch, the Dorma EML310 is offered with a door position sensor, the Schlage M390RFK carries a door status monitor and magnetic bond sensor, and the Locknetics MG Series is available in a monitored version. The Alarm Controls 1200 Series single magnet is the plain single door magnet in the group.
15) If I am standardizing a facility on 12/24VDC magnetic locks, which models match the DynaLock 2101 voltage?
The 2101 is field selectable 12/24 VDC, drawing 374 mA at 12VDC and 210 mA at 24VDC, with AC operation handled by a rectifier bridge option.
