Model 2860 Accessory, Replacement Door Armature & Base

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

1) What is the DynaLock 2860 replacement armature and base, and does it come with the electromagnet?
The 2860 is the door-side half of a DynaLock 2800 Series electromagnetic door holder: the self-adjusting, pivoting armature plus its mounting base. The electromagnet (the floor or wall mounted unit that does the holding) is a separate item. Order the 2860 when the magnet on the wall or floor is fine and the armature on the door is bent, worn, or missing.
2) My magnetic door holder won't hold the door open anymore. Is the armature the part to replace?
Often, yes. On a 2800 Series holder the armature pivots and self-adjusts so it seats flat against the magnet face; once it is bent, loose on its base, or no longer sitting square, the 30-45 lbs of holding force never fully transfers and the door creeps closed. Replacing the armature and base with the 2860 restores that contact. If the magnet itself has no power, that is a supply or fire-alarm-circuit problem, not an armature problem, since these holders are fail-safe and release the instant power drops.
3) Will the DynaLock 2860 armature fit any 2800 Series door holder, wall or floor mounted?
The 2860 is the armature and base for the DynaLock 2800 Series door holders, and those holders are built as floor or wall mounted magnets working against this same pivoting armature assembly. Match the series first: it is a 2800 Series part, so it belongs on a 2800 Series holder, not on another manufacturer's magnet.
4) The gap between my wall magnet and the door is too wide for the armature to reach. What do I order?
That is what the optional extension rods are for. DynaLock offers them for the 2800 Series to extend the armature projection where there is a wide standoff between the electromagnet location and the armature mounting point on the door. The 2860 armature and base is the starting assembly; the extension rod is ordered separately on top of it.
5) What finish does the DynaLock 2860 armature come in, and will it match the holders already in my building?
Satin aluminum, US28, and that is the only finish it ships in. US28 is also the standard finish on the 2800 Series holders themselves, so a 2860 will match magnets already installed in the standard finish. Two models in the series, the 2806 and 2810, use stainless steel faceplates in US32D instead, so on those openings the armature will read slightly different from the faceplate.
6) Is the DynaLock 2860 armature suitable for fire and smoke barrier doors in a commercial building?
It is a commercial-duty part, and the 2800 Series holders it belongs to are made to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until a fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler system releases them. The holders are UL listed and release instantly on power loss. Replacing a damaged armature with the correct 2860 assembly is what keeps that release path working as installed.
7) Do I have to worry about voltage when ordering a replacement armature for a DynaLock door holder?
No. Voltage lives on the magnet side, not the door side. The 2800 Series magnets are field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC, wired at screw terminals in the housing. The 2860 armature and base is a mechanical assembly with nothing to wire, so it drops onto any 2800 Series installation regardless of how the magnet was set.
8) Will a 2800 Series holder with a new armature still let staff push the door closed by hand?
Yes. The 2800 Series holds at 30-45 lbs per door, which is enough to keep a self-closing door parked open but low enough that someone can pull it shut by hand while the magnet is still energized. A properly seated 2860 armature is what puts that full holding force on the door; a bent one gives you less.
