DynaLock 4020 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a DynaLock 4020 filler plate actually used for on a maglock install?
The 4020 filler plate is an installation accessory for DynaLock magnetic lock mounting. It goes behind or alongside the magnet body to take up space when the frame, header, or stop leaves a gap between the lock and its mounting surface, so the magnet sits flush and makes full contact with the armature. It is a commercial door hardware accessory, not a lock itself, so it adds no electrical function of its own.
2) How do I know which thickness filler plate to order for my maglock?
Measure the gap between the magnet mounting surface and where the magnet face needs to land, then order the plate that matches. The 4020 range runs 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4 inch, so most stop depths and header offsets fall inside it. On a retrofit where the old lock left an uneven surface, measure at both ends of the 21 inch run, since a magnet that is shimmed square holds better than one pulled out of plane.
3) Does a filler plate affect the maglock's holding force or wiring?
A filler plate is a mechanical spacer only. It carries no electrical components, so it does not change voltage, current draw, or the lock's rated hold. What it does affect is contact: the magnet has to sit flat and square against the armature to develop full holding force, and that is the reason to shim rather than leave a gap.
4) Do I need filler plates and angle brackets, or just one or the other?
They solve different problems. Filler and spacer plates take up depth so the magnet sits flush on its mounting surface. Angle brackets change the plane, mounting the magnet or armature where there is no flat surface to land on, such as an inswinging door with no usable header face. DynaLock covers both in the 4000 Series accessory line, and a single opening sometimes needs both.
