DynaLock 6451 Series Exit Sensor Bar

Model 6451-42 Exit Sensor Bar, For 42” Door, US28

The non-latching 6451 Exit Sensor Bar offers immediate “no prior knowledge” egress by pushing on the bar at any point, with 15 Lbs. or less pressure. A light touch is all that is required to activate one or both internal optical sensors designed to detect an exit attempt. A built-in mechanical switch is also included as a redundant back-up release. Dual sensors, fail-safe electronics and successful testing in excess of one million cycles offer the user unparalleled reliability and low maintenance costs. Installation is simple. Complicated tune-in procedure and frequent call-backs for re-adjustment are not required.

Standard Features

  • Optical sensing electronics controlling lock and signal functions have no moving parts to wear out.
  • Built-in redundant mechanical switch for back-up release

DynaLock 6451-42 US28 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 6451-42 exit sensor bar fit a 42 inch wide door?
That's exactly what the 6451-42 is sized for. It's one of three standard bar lengths DynaLock offers in the 6451 line, and the bar can be field or factory cut for openings that don't match a standard length (the CLC option). Mounted, it projects 2-3/8 inches off the door face and the bar itself is 2-7/16 inches wide, so check your clearance to any adjacent wall or return before you set it.
2) Does the 6451 sensor bar have to be ordered handed for a left hand reverse or right hand reverse door?
No handing to specify. The 6451 exit sensor bar is non-handed and works on LHR or RHR doors, so one part number covers both leaves of a pair or a mixed set of openings in the same building.
3) What voltage do I need to run to the 6451 exit sensor bar?
Operating power is 12 to 24 volts, and the bar accepts AC or DC, so it will run off most access control power supplies already on site. Output is DPDT, which gives you one set of contacts for lock control and a second for alarm shunting. All input and output terminals have built-in spike suppression.
4) If the door already has a panic exit device, is there a cheaper way to get a request-to-exit signal than adding a DynaLock 6451 sensor bar?
Yes. The DynaLock 6451 is a non-latching exit sensor bar with optical sensors and a redundant mechanical switch that mounts to the door as its own piece of hardware, so it is the right choice when there is no exit device present or when the door is held by a maglock and needs touch-sensitive egress. If a rim exit device is already installed, a field-installable REX switch kit fits inside the existing device instead: the Command Access CRSREXKIT-ED covers Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series devices with an SPDT switch, and the Command Access CYREXKIT-ED covers Corbin 5000 and Yale 7000 exit devices with a 5A rating. Those kits signal from the device you already own rather than adding a second bar to the door face.
5) Is a Cal-Royal ACT-36 actuator bar an equivalent to the DynaLock 6451 exit sensor bar?
No, they do different jobs. The Cal-Royal ACT-36 is a 36 inch vertical actuator bar with logo and text for the Cal-Royal 8600 Series, so it is a component that drives a specific exit device. The DynaLock 6451-42 is a self-contained electronic exit sensor bar for a 42 inch door that runs on 12 to 24 VDC and provides DPDT outputs for lock control and alarm shunting. If you are replacing a bar on an 8600 Series device, the ACT-36 is the part; if you need an electrified egress sensor feeding an access control or maglock circuit, the 6451 is.
6) Can I get the DynaLock 6451 bar in a finish other than aluminum to match the rest of my hardware?
Three finishes are offered: Satin Aluminum (US28), Dark Bronze (US10B) and Satin Brass (US4). The 6451-42 as catalogued is US28 satin aluminum. The whole bar including the end caps is aircraft grade aluminum, so the finish is over metal, not plastic caps.
7) Is the 6451 sensor bar suitable for an ADA opening where someone can't grip a handle?
It suits that situation well. The bar activates from contact with anything, a hand, a briefcase, a cane, or a wheelchair footrest, and needs 15 lbs or less of pressure. There's no knob to turn, no lever to grip, and no prior knowledge required to get out, which is the behavior an ADA compliant egress path is after.
8) How durable is the DynaLock 6451 for a high traffic entrance, and does it need periodic adjustment?
It's tested past 1,000,000 cycles and rated commercial. The optical sensing electronics have no moving parts to wear, circuitry is conformal coated to resist moisture, and construction is all metal for abuse and vandal resistance. There's no tune-in or calibration procedure, so you're not scheduling callbacks to re-adjust sensitivity the way you would with some sensor releases.
9) I just need a request-to-exit signal on an existing exit device. Is a full sensor bar overkill?
Often, yes. The 6451 is a standalone touch bar that mounts on the door and replaces the need for any other release device. If you already have a panic device and only need REX contacts, a field installable switch kit is the smaller job: Command Access makes the CRSREXKIT-ED for Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series devices, and the CYREXKIT-ED for Corbin 5000 and Yale 7000 exit devices. For a mortise lock, the Command Access REX-KIT-ML covers ML1-Series. Go with the 6451 when there's no exit device to switch, such as a mag-locked opening.
10) If the optical sensors in the 6451 fail, is the door still going to open?
There's a redundant mechanical switch built into the bar as a backup release, so egress doesn't depend on the optics alone. The electronics are fail-safe and there are two internal optical sensors, either of which will detect the exit attempt. That's three independent paths to release on one push.
11) What should I use for request-to-exit on a door with a mortise lock rather than a push bar?
A mortise-lock opening is better served by a switch kit inside the lock body than by a surface bar. The Command Access REX-KIT-ML is a field-installable request-to-exit kit for ML1-Series mortise locks, and the Command Access SCHLBMKIT-ML is a field-installable latchbolt monitor switch kit in SPDT configuration for Schlage L9000 mortise locks. The DynaLock 6451 exit sensor bar is the alternative when you want no-prior-knowledge egress by touch anywhere along the bar, including by briefcase, cane or wheelchair, which suits ADA-driven layouts and maglock-controlled doors.
12) Do I need anything else to power a DynaLock 6451 sensor bar?
The 6451 accepts 12 to 24 VDC input, so it needs a low-voltage supply at the door. The Adams Rite 4605 is a transformer stepping 115 VAC down to 12/24 VAC with a 40 volt-amp output, which lands in that same 12/24 range. Note the 6451 itself is the sensing bar only and is furnished with an armored power transfer cord; the supply and any relay logic are separate items, such as the Locknetics RDB4 four-output relay distribution board.
13) The opening needs delayed egress with an audible alarm. Is the 6451 the right bar?
The DynaLock 6451 is a non-latching touch sensor bar that releases immediately with 15 pounds or less of pressure, so it is built for instant no-prior-knowledge egress rather than a timed delay. For the audible side of a delayed egress opening, the RCI 914 Series delayed egress sounder has field-selectable volume output up to 102dB, and the Securitron SB-MXD is an exit delay sex bolt. The Adams Rite 29-0218 piezo electric horn is a multi-voltage alarm option. Confirm the delay scheme with the authority having jurisdiction before specifying any of them.
14) Can the DynaLock 6451 sensor bar go on an all-glass or narrow stile glass door?
The 6451 is an aircraft-grade aluminum bar that mounts to the door face, and its mounting options are geared to standard and wood doors: a wood door mounting hardware kit and Securitron TSB mounting pads are both available with it. For a frameless glass leaf, Securitron Glass Door Accessories are the parts made for that application. Check the stile width against the bar footprint of 2-7/16 inch width and 2-3/8 inch projection before committing.
15) Can I get PUSH TO EXIT engraved on the bar?
Yes, bar engraving reading PUSH TO EXIT is an option you select when ordering the 6451-42; it's also available plain. Worth specifying on public-facing egress doors where an inspector or occupant needs the instruction on the device itself, since the engraving isn't field-added later.
16) What power supply works with a DynaLock 6451 exit sensor bar?
Anything delivering 12 to 24 volts AC or DC will drive the bar. The Adams Rite 4605 transformer, for example, takes 115 VAC down to 12 or 24 VAC with a 40 volt-amp output, which lands inside the 6451's input range. Size the supply for the lock you're releasing as well, not just the bar.
17) What finishes does the DynaLock 6451-42 come in if I need it to match other hardware on the opening?
The 6451-42 exit sensor bar is offered in Satin Aluminum (US28), Dark Bronze (US10B) and Satin Brass (US4), and can be ordered with or without PUSH TO EXIT engraving on the bar. That is a broader finish range than most surface egress accessories carry, so it is usually the piece that matches rather than the piece you work around. Among adjacent accessories the Securitron SAM Surface Mount Kit accessories and the Securitron SWB SAM wood bracket are mounting components rather than finish-matched trim.
