DynaLock 6420 Series Passive Infrared Request To Exit Sensor

The DynaLock Series 6420 passive infrared Request-To-Exit sensor detects the differential between a human body and the floor. Featuring a dual-pyroelectric design, for increased stability against external light, the 6420’s pyramid-shaped detection field is positionable from straight-down vertical to 35° in front of the door and special circuitry provides high immunity to RFI and other electrical noise. Two, built-in SPDT dry relay output contacts are rated for 1 Amp @ 30VDC and an adjustable timer may be set for from 0.25 to 60 seconds of relay hold time. Additionally, the output relay’s mode may be set for fail-safe or fail-secure operation and an on-board LED indicator may be set to illuminate during relay hold time.                                    

The 6420 accepts 12 to 24 VAC/VDC input power and is designed for wall, ceiling or door frame mounting. It is ideally suited for access control, lock release, alarm shunting and automatic door operation.

1) Can the DynaLock 6420 request-to-exit sensor cover a pair of doors, or just one leaf?
Either. The 6420 has an adjustable two-position mirror that sets coverage for a single door or a double door opening. On top of that, the pyramid-shaped detection field pivots from straight-down vertical to 35 degrees out in front of the door, so you can pull the pattern back tight to the leaf or push it into the approach path.
2) What voltage does the DynaLock 6420 REX sensor run on, and does it need DC?
It takes 12 to 24 volts, AC or DC, and the input voltage is selectable on the unit. That means it will run off the same 12 or 24 volt supply already feeding a maglock or strike, without a separate transformer.
3) Will the DynaLock 6420 sensor relay switch a maglock directly?
Not a maglock on its own. The 6420 gives you two SPDT dry contacts rated 1 Amp at 30VDC. That is enough to break power to a small lock or to signal an access control panel, alarm shunt, or auto operator, but anything drawing more than 1 Amp needs to be switched through a relay or the access control board rather than off the sensor contacts.
4) Is the DynaLock 6420 fail-safe or fail-secure?
Both, selected by DIP switch on the board. You set the output relay mode for fail-safe or fail-secure operation depending on whether the opening needs to release or hold on loss of power, so one part number covers either egress strategy.
5) Can I set how long the door stays unlocked after the DynaLock 6420 detects someone?
Yes. The on-board timer adjusts relay hold time anywhere from 0.25 seconds up to 60 seconds. Short settings suit a momentary release into an access panel; longer settings cover alarm shunting while someone actually clears the opening.
