1) Will the ProdataKey REXHP request-to-exit sensor run on my 12VDC access control power supply?
The REXHP runs on 12-24VDC or 12-24VAC at 50-60Hz, so a standard 12VDC access panel or maglock supply powers it directly. Draw is 18-30mA on DC and 45-80mA on AC, so it adds almost nothing to your power budget when you are sizing a supply that is already carrying a maglock.
2) Can a REXHP motion sensor cut power to a maglock directly, or do I need a relay between them?
Wiring goes through the sensor's own relay, which is a 2C form contact giving you both normally closed and normally open, rated 24VDC at 1A max with a 0.6 power factor. On a typical single maglock that is enough to break the lock power leg on its own. If the lock draw or the lock voltage exceeds 24VDC at 1A, or you are dropping several maglocks off one sensor, drive an interposing relay from the contact instead.
3) How high can I mount a request-to-exit PIR sensor and still cover the door?
Coverage on the REXHP is 12 by 5 feet when mounted at 7 feet, widening to 30 by 12 feet at 15 feet. That gives you a workable pattern on both a standard-height door header and a tall storefront or lobby transom. The wider high-mount pattern is worth checking against nearby foot traffic, since anything crossing that 30 foot spread will trip the relay and drop the lock.
4) My REXHP keeps releasing the maglock when people walk past the door. How do I stop the false triggers?
Angle of the detection module sets the range. Tilt it for short range and it only picks up someone standing immediately in front of the door, which is the fix when a corridor or cross-traffic passes through the pattern. Long range, set by adjusting the cover lens, is for a building with a long straight approach to the exit and no other foot traffic in the detection area.
5) Can I mount a ProdataKey REXHP on an exterior door or in an unheated garage?
Indoor use only. The REXHP is rated -20F to 120F (-29C to 49C) and 0-95 percent humidity non-condensing, so a conditioned lobby, corridor or stairwell is where it belongs. For an exterior opening, put the sensor on the inside face of the door and keep it out of direct weather.
6) How long does the ProdataKey REXHP hold the door unlocked after it sees someone?
Hold time is adjustable from 0.5 to 64 seconds on the sensor itself. Short settings suit a fast single-leaf egress door; longer settings are what you want on a slow-closing door, an ADA operator, or a vestibule where someone needs time to clear the opening before the maglock re-energizes.
7) How much header space do I need above the door for the REXHP sensor?
The housing measures 7 x 1.87 x 1.87 inches (178 x 48 x 48 mm), so it wants a clear 7 inch run on the header or frame face with under 2 inches of depth. On a narrow aluminum storefront header, check that 7 inch dimension before you commit, since the long axis is what runs out of room first.
8) Is a PIR request-to-exit sensor the right choice, or should I use an exit push button?
A passive infrared REX like the REXHP detects motion approaching the door and releases the maglock with no action from the person leaving, which is what you want on egress paths where a code official or the occupants expect hands-free exit. A push button requires a deliberate press and only fires when someone finds it. The tradeoff with PIR is that anything moving in the pattern releases the lock, so on doors with heavy cross-traffic the button gives you tighter control. The REXHP also carries a green LED so you can confirm at a glance that it detected.
