DynaLock 9200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the DynaLock 9200 magnetic contact a request-to-exit button?
No, and this is a common mix-up. The 9200 is a door position contact, a sensor that reports whether the door is open or closed. It has no button to press. For a release or exit button you want a pushbutton device such as the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text, or the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton marked Emergency Release. Most electric locking jobs need both: a contact to monitor the door and a button to release it.
2) What are the electrical ratings on the DynaLock 9200 contact, and can it switch a maglock directly?
The 9200 switch is rated 0.25 amps at 30VDC. That is a signalling-level contact: run it to an alarm input, an access panel monitor input, or a relay coil. Do not put lock current through it. If you need a contact that carries real load, the DynaLock 9280 mortise roller ball type is rated 4 amps at 24VDC.
3) Should I use a surface mounted door contact like the DynaLock 9200 or a mortised one?
Surface mounting is the retrofit answer. The 9200 screws onto the face of the frame and door with no drilling into the door edge, which is what you want on an existing opening or a hollow metal frame you do not want to cut. If the contact needs to be concealed or protected from tampering and abuse, go mortised: the DynaLock 9250 is the mortise version of the same SPDT screw terminal contact, and the 9275 and 9280 are mortise roller ball types that ride against the door edge instead of using a magnet.
4) Can the DynaLock 9200 be used on a pair of doors or on a door with a large gap?
On a pair, you need one contact per leaf, since each door has to be monitored on its own. The bigger caution is gap: the 9200 works by a magnet in the door-mounted half holding the switch in the frame half, so the two halves have to sit close and in line when the door is shut. Warped doors, thick weatherstripping, or a leaf that does not close tight will drop the contact and throw a false door-open signal. On an opening with a genuinely wide or inconsistent gap, a mortise roller ball type like the DynaLock 9275 is the better mechanical answer because it is actuated by contact with the door edge rather than magnetic proximity.
5) Can a Securitron PB3 push button be used in place of a DynaLock 9200 magnetic contact?
No - they do opposite jobs on the same opening. The DynaLock 9200 is a surface mounted magnetic contact, SPDT rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC, that reports whether the door leaf is closed against the frame. The Securitron PB3 is a push button, a device a person presses to release the door. A typical access controlled opening uses both: the push button for the release request, the 9200 for door position status back to the panel. Substituting one for the other leaves either the release or the position monitoring unwired.
6) The frame will not take a surface mounted contact - what DynaLock contact goes in the door edge instead?
Move to a mortise mounted model in the same series. The 9250 is a mortise mounted magnetic contact with screw terminals, SPDT rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. If the opening calls for a mechanical plunger rather than a magnet, the 9275 is a mortise mounted roller ball type, SPDT rated 4 Amps at 24VDC, and the 9280 is the same roller ball style in DPDT, also 4 Amps at 24VDC. All three drop into a prepped edge instead of sitting on the face of the frame like the 9200.
7) Is the DynaLock 9200 an acceptable substitute for an emergency release device on an egress door?
No. The 9200 is a door position contact - it tells the panel the door is closed, and it is rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC on an SPDT circuit. Emergency release on an egress opening is a manually operated device: the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, or the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release. If your drawing calls for a labeled emergency release, specify one of those and keep the 9200 for the position monitoring line.
8) What is the difference between the SPDT DynaLock 9200 and the DPDT 9280?
One set of contacts versus two. The 9200 is SPDT, so you get a single common with a normally open and a normally closed leg, enough to feed one monitor input. The 9280 is DPDT, giving two independent circuits from the same door position, which is what you use when the same door state has to report to two systems at once, say an access panel and a separate alarm. The 9280 is also mortise mounted roller ball rather than surface magnetic.
9) Can I wire the DynaLock 9200 as normally open or normally closed?
Either. The contact is SPDT, so it has a common plus both a normally open and a normally closed pole on the screw terminals. Wire the pair your panel expects. Most door position monitoring runs the closed-door state as a closed circuit so a cut wire reports as a fault.
10) I need a key switch or a push plate to release the door, not a door contact. What else is there?
Those are different devices from the 9200 magnetic contact. For key-operated release, the ACSI 1310-1 is a mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series. For a large touch actuator on an accessible opening, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with the handicap symbol is a momentary switch in satin stainless. For a narrow frame or hollow metal jamb with no room, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch. Illuminated options include the Securitron PB4L with a lit halo and the Securitron PB5 medium round.
11) My contact run has no terminal access at the frame - what version of the DynaLock 9200 do I order?
Order the 9225. It is the same surface mounted magnetic contact with the same SPDT rating of 0.25 Amps at 30VDC, but it terminates in flying leads instead of the screw terminals used on the 9200. Flying leads splice directly into the harness where there is no room to land wire under a screw.
12) What do I pair with a DynaLock 9200 door contact to give people a way to release the door from inside?
The 9200 handles door position only - it is a surface mounted magnetic contact with screw terminals, SPDT rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. For the release side, common companions are the Securitron PB3 Series push button, the Securitron PB5 medium round illuminated push button, or the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol in satin stainless steel for an opening that needs a large actuator surface. Which one you choose depends on the wall prep and whether the button needs to be illuminated.
13) I need a device that both unlocks the door and switches a circuit - is the 9200 contact the right part?
No. The DynaLock 9200 is a magnetic contact that changes state with door position and carries an SPDT circuit rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC; it is not actuated by a person and does not release anything. For an operator actuated switch, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch sized for a narrow stile, and the RCI 909 Series is a flush mount momentary rocker switch rated 250VAC 10A in a beige finish. Those are the parts a user or a keyed operator acts on; the 9200 sits in the background reporting whether the leaf is closed.
14) Which device do I use if the release has to be key operated rather than a contact?
A keyswitch, not a magnetic contact. The ACSI 1310-1 is a mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, mounted in a prepped cylinder hole so only a keyholder can trigger the circuit. The DynaLock 9200 has no key and no operator interface at all - it is a surface mounted magnetic contact rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC that switches on door position. On a controlled opening the keyswitch and the contact commonly land on the same panel serving different inputs.
15) Does a maintained exit button like the RCI 908 do the same thing as a door position contact?
It does not. The RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained operation device - once pressed it holds its state until pressed again, and it acts on a person's input. The RCI 919 Series rotary release button in satin aluminum is another maintained style device. The DynaLock 9200 changes state only when the door leaf moves away from its magnet, switching an SPDT circuit rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. A maintained exit button will never tell the panel the door has been left standing open; the 9200 will.
16) Is the DynaLock 9200 contact suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The 9200 is a commercial grade access control component, sold as an installation accessory for electrified openings rather than a homeowner alarm contact. It is the part a security integrator or electrical contractor puts on a monitored opening in an office, school, or multi-family entry.
