DynaLock 9275 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What's the difference between the DynaLock 9275 and the 9280 roller ball contact?
Switch configuration is the only difference. The 9275 is SPDT (single pole, double throw), the 9280 is DPDT (double pole, double throw). Both are mortise mounted roller ball type and both are rated 4 Amps at 24VDC. Pick the 9280 if you need two independent switched circuits off one door position input, for example feeding an access control panel and a local alarm or annunciator separately. If one circuit is all you need, the 9275 covers it.
2) Will a DynaLock 9275 roller ball contact carry enough current to switch a door strike or relay directly?
The 9275 is rated 4 Amps at 24VDC, which is a real load rating rather than a dry signal contact. That is the highest switch rating in the 9200 door position line: the 9200, 9225 and 9250 magnetic contacts are all rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. If you are switching anything beyond a low-current panel input, the roller ball contact is the one in the family that will take it. Stay inside 4 Amps at 24VDC.
3) Should I use a roller ball contact like the DynaLock 9275 or a magnetic door contact?
Both report door position, but they fail differently and install differently. The roller ball 9275 is a mechanical plunger contact mortised into the frame, actuated by the door face itself, and it switches 4 Amps at 24VDC. A magnetic contact like the DynaLock 9200 or 9225 has no moving part and relies on a magnet in the door lining up with a switch in the frame, but it only handles 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. Go magnetic when the door or frame moves around, sags, or the gap varies, since there is no plunger to miss. Go roller ball when you want positive mechanical actuation and a heavier switching load.
4) Does the DynaLock 9275 mount on the surface of the frame or does the frame have to be prepped?
It's a mortise unit, so the frame has to be prepped for it. The 9275 recesses into the frame rather than sitting on the surface. If you're retrofitting an existing opening and cannot cut the frame, look at the surface mounted magnetic contacts in the same 9200 family instead: the 9200 with screw terminals or the 9225 with flying leads. Both mount on the surface with no mortise prep.
5) Does the DynaLock 9275 come with screw terminals or flying leads?
Termination style is specified within the 9200 family rather than as an option on the 9275. The screw terminal and flying lead choice is what separates the 9200 (screw terminals) from the 9225 (flying leads) on the surface mounted magnetic side. On the mortise side, the 9250 magnetic contact is the screw terminal version. The 9275 ships as a single configuration, model 9275, with no termination or finish options to select.
6) What do I have to specify when ordering a DynaLock 9275 door contact?
Nothing beyond the model. The 9275 is ordered as one part number with no handing, finish, length, or voltage options to call out. The decisions happen before you get to it: mortise versus surface mount, roller ball versus magnetic, and SPDT versus DPDT. Once you have landed on a mortise roller ball with a single pole double throw switch, 9275 is the whole order.
7) Is the DynaLock 9275 mortise contact interchangeable with the 9250?
They both mortise into the frame, but they are not the same device. The 9250 is a magnetic contact with screw terminals rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. The 9275 is a mechanical roller ball type rated 4 Amps at 24VDC. Swapping from a 9250 to a 9275 gets you a much heavier switch rating and mechanical actuation, but the two use different mounting preparations and wiring, so treat it as a new install rather than a drop-in.
