DynaLock 9250 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the DynaLock 9250 magnetic door contact surface mounted or mortised into the door?
The 9250 is a mortise mounted magnetic contact. The switch body goes into the frame and the magnet into the door edge (or the reverse), so nothing shows once the door is closed. If you cannot drill the frame and door edge, the surface mounted versions in the same 9200 family are the 9200 (screw terminals) and 9225 (flying leads).
2) What are the electrical ratings on the DynaLock 9250 door position switch?
SPDT contacts rated 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. That is a signal-level switch, fine for a door position input to an access control panel, alarm zone or monitoring point, but not for switching a maglock, strike or any load current.
3) I need a door contact that can switch more than a signal-level load. Which DynaLock 9200 model should I use?
Step up to the roller ball type mortise contacts: the 9275 is SPDT rated 4 Amps at 24VDC and the 9280 is the same rating with DPDT contacts. The 9250 only carries 0.25 Amps at 30VDC. Pick the 9280 if you need two independent circuits, for example one to the access control panel and one to the alarm.
4) Does the DynaLock 9250 contact terminate with screw terminals or pigtail leads?
Screw terminals. You land the field wiring directly on the switch, which is the easier termination when you are pulling into a frame and want to service it later. If your install favors splicing to a pigtail instead, the 9225 surface mount version uses flying leads.
5) How do I choose between a magnetic reed contact and a roller ball plunger contact for door monitoring?
A magnetic contact like the DynaLock 9250 senses the magnet in the opposite leaf, so small gap variation or a door that does not seat perfectly still reports correctly, and there is nothing to depress. A roller ball type such as the 9275 or 9280 is mechanically actuated by the door face and carries far more current (4 Amps at 24VDC versus 0.25 Amps at 30VDC), which is why it gets used where the contact has to switch a load rather than just signal position.
6) Is the DynaLock 9250 a lock, or just the monitoring switch?
It is only the door position sensing switch, not a locking device. It tells your panel whether the door is open or closed. The lock or maglock and its power supply are separate items.
7) Is the DynaLock 9250 magnetic contact suitable for commercial openings?
Yes, it is a commercial rated electronic access control accessory, used as a door position switch on openings monitored by an access control or alarm system. Because it is a magnetic reed contact rather than a mechanical plunger, there is no moving part in the door edge to wear or get jammed by a warped door.
