DynaLock DYK9225 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a DynaLock 9225 magnetic contact used for on an access control door?
The 9225 is a door position switch. It mounts on the surface of the door and frame, and the magnet in the door half holds the reed switch in the frame half in one state while the door is closed. When the door opens, the contact transfers and tells your access control panel, alarm, or mag lock circuit that the opening is no longer secure. Contact rating is SPDT at 0.25 amps, 30VDC, so it is a signalling device, not something you switch a lock's load through.
2) Can I switch a maglock or door strike directly through a DynaLock 9225 contact?
No. The 9225 contact is rated 0.25 amps at 30VDC, which is a monitoring-level rating only. Lock power has to be switched by a relay or by the access control board; run the 9225 into an input, not into the lock circuit. If you need a door position device with a heavier rating, DynaLock's 9275 roller ball contact in the same 9200 family is rated SPDT 4 amps at 24VDC, and the 9280 is the DPDT version at the same 4 amps and 24VDC.
3) Should I use a surface magnetic contact like the DynaLock 9225 or a mortised one?
Surface mounting is the retrofit choice. The 9225 screws onto the face of the frame and door with no drilling into the edge, so it goes on an existing opening in minutes and stays serviceable. The tradeoff is that it is visible and reachable. If you want the contact concealed in the door edge and frame, DynaLock's 9250 is the mortise mounted magnetic version, and the 9275 and 9280 are mortise mounted roller ball types that work mechanically off the door edge rather than magnetically.
4) Is the DynaLock 9225 SPDT contact normally open or normally closed?
It is SPDT, so it gives you both. You get a common, a normally open and a normally closed leg, and you wire whichever polarity your panel input expects. That is why it suits mixed installs where one board wants a closed loop on a secure door and another wants an open contact.
5) Is the DynaLock 9225 rated for commercial openings or is it a residential alarm contact?
It is a commercial device, part of DynaLock's 9200 series of electronic access control accessories. It is the door position input for commercial access control and electrified hardware openings rather than a residential burglar alarm contact.
