DynaLock 9280 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the DynaLock 9280 and the 9275 roller ball door contact?
Both are mortise mounted roller ball contacts rated 4 Amps at 24VDC. The switch is the difference: the 9275 is SPDT, a single set of transfer contacts, and the 9280 is DPDT, two independent sets. Pick the 9280 when one door position signal has to drive two separate things, say an access control input and a local alarm or relay, without paralleling off one contact.
2) Can the DynaLock 9280 switch enough current to drive a relay or a door alarm directly?
The 9280 roller ball contact is rated 4 Amps at 24VDC, which is real switching capacity, not just a dry signal contact. That is sixteen times the 0.25 Amp at 30VDC rating on DynaLock's magnetic contacts (9200, 9225, 9250), so the roller ball will carry a relay coil, a sounder, or a small load the magnetic contacts cannot. Being DPDT, you get two sets, so one pole can feed the panel input and the other the load.
3) Should I use a roller ball contact or a magnetic door contact for door position monitoring?
A roller ball contact is mechanical, mortised into the frame, and the door presses the plunger in as it closes, so it reports position by physical contact. DynaLock's magnetic contacts (9200 and 9225 surface mounted, 9250 mortise mounted) sense a magnet in the door instead, with no moving part to wear or bind. Reach for the roller ball when you need switching capacity, 4 Amps at 24VDC versus 0.25 Amps at 30VDC on the magnetic units, or when you want the contact to defeat a magnet held against the frame. Go magnetic on a door that flexes or drops out of alignment, where a plunger loses its contact.
4) Does the DynaLock 9280 mount on the surface of the frame or does it need to be mortised in?
Mortise mount. The 9280 roller ball contact goes into a prep cut in the door frame, so plan for drilling and routing the frame and running wire in the hollow, not a surface install. If the frame cannot be cut, or you are retrofitting an occupied opening, DynaLock's surface mounted magnetic contacts, the 9200 with screw terminals and the 9225 with flying leads, mount on the face instead.
5) How do I order the DynaLock 9280 and are there different versions to choose from?
There is one configuration to order: model 9280 in the DynaLock 9200 series, the DPDT mortise roller ball contact. No handing, finish, or lead-length options to specify. If the job needs a single pole instead, that is the 9275; if it needs magnetic sensing, the 9250 is the mortise version and the 9200 and 9225 are the surface versions.
6) Can I wire the DynaLock 9280 for either normally open or normally closed?
Yes. DPDT means double pole double throw, so each of the two poles gives you a common, a normally open and a normally closed terminal. Land the panel on whichever pair your input supervision expects, and use the second pole independently for a separate circuit. The contacts carry 4 Amps at 24VDC either way.
