DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7024 Momentary, (2) DPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7024 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7024 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
The 7024 ships with the face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switches. The mortise cylinder and cam are normally supplied by the user, which is what lets you key the switch into an existing master key system. If you would rather not source one separately, there is a Mortise Cylinder option that can be added when you order.
2) What size mortise cylinder fits a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
It takes a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder fitted with a bat type cam. Standard cams that are not bat style will not drive the switch, so specify the bat cam when you order the cylinder from your keyway supplier.
3) How much depth do I need behind the wall for a DynaLock 7024 keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number to check against your back box or hollow metal frame cavity before you cut. The assembly ships on single, double or narrow gang plates.
4) What does momentary mean on the 7024 keyswitch, and when should I choose maintained instead?
Momentary means the contacts change state only while you hold the key turned to its stop; let it return to vertical and the contacts go back. That is what you want for releasing an electric lock or strike for a brief entry. Maintained is the other function in the 7000 Series: turn the key to the stop and back to vertical and the contact stays changed until you repeat the move, which suits shunting an alarm zone or holding a mag lock off for a delivery window. On both functions the key comes out only in the vertical position.
5) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7024 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is a mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, making it the nearest key-operated counterpart to the DynaLock 7024. Both are key-actuated switches rather than push buttons, so both require a mortise cylinder to operate. The DynaLock 7024 is a momentary switch carrying two DPDT switches with contacts rated 6 amps at 125VAC, and it accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, which the user typically supplies when master keying a system.
6) If the opening does not need key control, what is a simpler release device than the DynaLock 7024?
A push button release covers the same job without a cylinder or keying program. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, are both pressed by hand to release a door. The DynaLock 7024 instead requires a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, so access is limited to keyholders, and it carries two DPDT switches for controlling more than one circuit.
7) We need a maintained on/off release instead of momentary. What are the options besides the DynaLock 7024?
The DynaLock 7024 is the momentary version, where rotating the key to its stop changes the contact state only while the key is held there. For a latching action, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text operates maintained, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button in satin aluminum is also maintained. DynaLock also builds the 7000 Series keyswitches in maintained function if key control has to stay part of the design.
8) Is a Securitron EEB or an ACSI emergency release pushbutton a substitute for the DynaLock 7024 keyswitch?
No. The Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses and the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release, both intended to be operated by anyone in an emergency. The DynaLock 7024 is a key-operated switch that accepts a mortise cylinder, so it is used where only keyholders should shunt an alarm or control an electric lock. They serve opposite intents at the opening and should not be swapped for one another.
9) Can a DynaLock 7024 switch a 24VDC mag lock circuit directly?
Contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, which covers typical low voltage lock and relay loads as well as line voltage control. With two DPDT switches on the 7024 you get four sets of changeover contacts, so you can break both legs of a lock circuit and still have a spare pole for an alarm shunt or a monitoring input. Switches arrive prewired with 6 inch color coded 18 gauge leads.
10) Why would I need two DPDT switches in one keyswitch instead of a single switch?
Two DPDT switches let one key action drive two independent circuits at once, each with double pole changeover contacts. Common uses are unlocking a door while simultaneously shunting the alarm point, or controlling a pair of doors from one station. If you only need one circuit, a single pole or single switch version of the 7000 Series is the simpler order, since the family is built in SPDT and DPDT, momentary and maintained combinations.
11) What options can I add to a DynaLock 7024 keyswitch when ordering?
Four choices sit on the order: an anti-tamper switch, a bi-color red/green LED running on 12/24VDC, a mortise cylinder, and a two gang plate. The LED is the one people forget and then want, since it gives the guard or receptionist visual confirmation of lock state at the station. The two gang plate matters if you are sharing a box with another device or need the extra face area.
12) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release a door?
A keyswitch like the DynaLock 7024 restricts operation to people holding the right key, which is what you want on an exterior door, a stair re-entry, or an equipment room where anyone walking past should not be able to release the lock. A push button releases for anyone who can reach it, which is correct for a request-to-exit or an accessible entry: the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with the handicap symbol, or the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button cover those roles. For a straight mortise keyswitch alternative, the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch is the peer product.
13) Can the DynaLock 7024 be used to shunt an alarm panel rather than control a lock?
Yes. Beyond electric locks, these keyswitches are used to shunt or activate security panels and consoles, or any comparable circuit. The 7024's two DPDT switches give enough contacts to shunt a zone and signal the panel at the same time from a single key turn. For shunting you would normally want the maintained function rather than the momentary contacts on the 7024.
14) The wall box is narrow. What fits where a DynaLock 7024 keyswitch will not?
The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch and the RCI 909 Series is a flush mount momentary rocker switch rated 250VAC 10A in a beige finish, both built for tight mounting locations. The DynaLock 7024 switch assembly requires 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate, and ships on single, double or narrow gang plates, so confirm the depth before committing to the keyswitch in a shallow box.
15) Which release device holds up best in a high-traffic commercial building?
The DynaLock 7024 is rated heavy duty for commercial use, with switch capacity of 6 amps at 125 volts, spanner head screws on all visible fasteners for tamper resistance, and a US32D brushed stainless steel face plate. Among the alternatives, the RCI 950 Series round push plate is also supplied in satin stainless steel and the Securitron PB4L pairs an illuminated halo with a stainless push button, so all three offer a stainless wearing surface at the opening.
16) What finish does the DynaLock 7024 keyswitch plate come in, and is it tamper resistant?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, so it matches the satin stainless push plates and trim already on most commercial openings. All visible screws are spanner head, which keeps the plate off limits to a standard driver in a public corridor or a stairwell.
17) Is the DynaLock 7024 keyswitch suitable for a high traffic commercial building?
It is a commercial, heavy duty device, not a residential fitting. The switching capacity of 6 amps at 125 volts and the spanner head screws are there for buildings where the station gets used daily and sits in public view. For standardizing across a facility, the 7000 Series gives you one plate style with momentary or maintained and SPDT or DPDT variations, so every station can look the same while doing different jobs.
