DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7004 Momentary, (2) SPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7004 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7004 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
Either way. The 7004 assembly ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switches, and the cylinder is normally supplied by the user so it can be keyed into an existing master system. If you'd rather not source one, a mortise cylinder can be added as an ordering option on the 7004. You need a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder with a "bat" type cam.
2) How much depth do I need behind the wall for a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clearance behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number to check against your back box or hollow metal frame before you cut anything.
3) What's the difference between the momentary 7004 keyswitch and a maintained keyswitch?
Momentary, like the 7004, changes the contact state only while you hold the key turned to its stop; let it return to vertical and the contact goes back. Maintained latches, turn to the stop and back to vertical and the state changes, and you repeat the turn to change it back. Use momentary for a release, unlock a mag lock or strike for as long as the key is held. Use maintained where you want to leave a door unlocked or a security panel shunted until someone comes back and keys it off. The key pulls out in the vertical position on both.
4) Is a key switch or a push button the right call for my exit door?
A key switch like the DynaLock 7004 restricts operation to whoever holds the key, which is what you want for staff-only release, alarm shunt, or a controlled unlock that the public should not be able to hit. A push button is for free egress or public request-to-exit and takes no key at all. ZenSupply carries push buttons for that side of the job, including the Securitron PB3 Series, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, and the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button. If the door needs a code-required manual egress device, use the push button. If it needs authorized control, use the keyswitch.
5) What is the closest key-operated equivalent to the DynaLock 7004 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch, part of ACSI's 1300 Series, is the closest key-operated alternative. Like the DynaLock 7004, it is a mortise-cylinder keyswitch rather than a push button, so it serves the same purpose of restricting door release to a keyholder. The DynaLock 7004 is the momentary version with two SPDT switches, accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, and comes standard in US32D brushed stainless steel with spanner head screws throughout. Confirm the cylinder length and cam style your keyway requires before committing to either, since on the 7004 the mortise cylinder and cam are typically supplied by the user when the switch is being master keyed into an existing system.
6) If the opening does not need key control, what is a simpler release switch than the DynaLock 7004?
A push button release is the simpler route when anyone on the secure side is allowed to open the door. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Securitron PB5 Series medium round illuminated push button both release with a press instead of a key, so there is no cylinder to buy, key, or maintain. The DynaLock 7004 exists for the opposite requirement: it is a momentary keyswitch with two SPDT contacts that only actuates when a keyholder turns the cylinder, and it is supplied with face plate, bracketry, and cylinder locknut for that purpose. Choose the push button where free egress or unrestricted release is intended, and the 7004 where the release must be limited to issued keys.
7) Can an RCI 908 or RCI 919 be used in place of a DynaLock 7004 keyswitch?
They are not substitutes for a keyed release. The RCI 908 Series is an electronic exit button with red EXIT text and maintained operation, and the RCI 919 Series is a rotary release button with maintained operation in a satin aluminum finish - both are actuated by hand with no cylinder involved, and both are maintained rather than momentary. The DynaLock 7004 is the momentary configuration with two SPDT contacts and takes a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, so access is limited to keyholders and the contacts revert as soon as the key returns to vertical. If maintained action is what you actually want from DynaLock, the 7000 Series is also offered in a maintained function, where turning the key to its stop and back changes the contact state until the sequence is repeated.
8) The frame is a narrow aluminum stile with no room for a gang box. Is the DynaLock 7004 still the right switch?
Depth and plate width both matter there. The DynaLock 7004 switch assembly needs 1-1/2 inches of depth clearance behind the plate and ships on single, double, or narrow gang plates, so a narrow plate version can work in a stile if you have that depth. Where you do not, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch built for tight frame applications, and the RCI 909 Series is a flush mount momentary rocker switch rated 250VAC 10A in a beige finish. Neither of those is key operated, so if key control is a requirement you should be measuring for the 7004 narrow plate rather than switching to a button.
9) Can one DynaLock 7004 keyswitch control two separate things at once?
Yes. The 7004 carries two SPDT switches, so a single key turn operates two independent circuits, for example dropping an electric lock while simultaneously shunting an alarm zone or signaling a console. Each switch gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact.
10) Will the 7004 keyswitch handle switching a mag lock circuit directly?
Contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, which covers typical low voltage lock power and control circuits directly without a relay in most cases. Each switch arrives factory prewired with 6 inch color coded 18 gauge leads, so you're splicing in the box rather than landing screw terminals.
11) What other mortise keyswitches could I use instead of the DynaLock 7004?
The closest cross-brand equivalent ZenSupply stocks is the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, also a cylinder-operated switch that takes a mortise cylinder you key into your own system. The Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch is another option where you're working a narrow face plate. The 7004 is the one to pick when you specifically need two SPDT circuits off a single momentary key turn.
12) Can I mount the DynaLock 7004 keyswitch in a two gang box alongside another device?
Yes, a two gang plate is an available configuration on the 7004, and the series ships on single, double or narrow gang plates. Pick the two gang version when you're sharing a box with a reader, a push button or an LED annunciator. Still allow 1-1/2 inches of depth behind the plate for the switch body.
13) We need an illuminated status indication at the release point. How does that compare to the DynaLock 7004?
The DynaLock 7004 can be ordered with a bi-color red/green LED rated 12/24VDC built into the plate, so the keyswitch itself can show locked and unlocked state. If you would rather have the indication in a push button, the Securitron PB4L Series pairs a stainless push button with an illuminated halo, the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button, and the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button uses interchangeable LED lenses. The difference is the actuation method, not the indication: only the 7004 requires a key turn, and it is also available with an anti-tamper switch and on a two gang plate.
14) What should I use for a barrier-free or handicap-marked release instead of the DynaLock 7004?
The RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol is the purpose-built choice there - it is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel with the accessibility symbol on the face, sized to be struck with a hand, elbow, or forearm. The DynaLock 7004 is a momentary keyswitch in US32D brushed stainless steel and requires a key turn in a mortise cylinder, which is the wrong actuation for an accessible actuator but the right one where release must be restricted. Many jobs use both: the push plate for public-side barrier-free operation and the 7004 for keyed override or security control.
15) For an emergency release station, is the DynaLock 7004 the correct device?
An emergency release station is normally a marked, hand-operated device so anyone can use it under duress. The ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a momentary pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release, and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses for that role. The DynaLock 7004 is a momentary keyswitch requiring a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder, with all visible screws spanner head for tamper resistance - that combination suits a controlled or staff-only release point, not a public emergency station. Where an installation needs both, the 7004 can be ordered on a two gang plate alongside a second device.
16) Do any of the push button alternatives handle two separate circuits the way the DynaLock 7004 does?
The two SPDT switch build of the DynaLock 7004 is the distinguishing feature - it gives two independent sets of changeover contacts from one key turn, rated 6 amps at 125VAC, prewired with 6 inch color-coded 18 gauge leads, which is what you want when one action has to both release a lock and shunt or signal an alarm panel. Among the alternatives, the RCI 909 Series is a flush mount momentary rocker rated 250VAC 10A, and devices such as the Securitron PB3 Series and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button are single-action release buttons. If your sequence of operation calls for two circuits switched together under key control, the 7004 is the one built for it.
17) Will the DynaLock 7004 match the stainless trim on the rest of my openings?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, the same satin stainless used on most commercial push plates, strikes and lever trim, so it blends with typical building standard hardware. All visible screws are spanner head, so it also resists casual tampering in a public corridor.
18) Is the DynaLock 7004 keyswitch rated for a high traffic commercial entrance?
It's a commercial, heavy duty rated device, which is the classification you want for a staff entrance, loading dock or garage door control that gets keyed many times a day. The switch capacity of 6 amps at 125 volts backs that up, these are heavy-duty switches rather than signal-level contacts.
