DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7002 Momentary, (1) SPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7002 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7002 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I supply my own?
The 7002 ships as an assembly with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switch. The cylinder is normally supplied by the user so it can be keyed into the building's master system. If you would rather not source one separately, the 7002 can be ordered with a mortise cylinder included as an option.
2) What size mortise cylinder and cam does a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch take?
It accepts any standard 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise key cylinder fitted with a "bat" type cam. That covers most conventional and interchangeable-core mortise cylinders, so a locksmith can key it to an existing system, but the cam is the part people get wrong. A standard clover or straight cam will not drive the switch.
3) How much depth do I need behind the wall to mount a DynaLock 7002 keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number to check against your back box or the cavity in a hollow metal frame before you cut the opening.
4) What is the difference between the momentary 7002 and a maintained keyswitch?
Momentary, which is what the 7002 is: turning the key to its stop changes the contact state only while you hold it there, and returning the key to vertical restores it. That suits a release, a door open command, or a momentary unlock. Maintained works the other way, turning to the stop and back to vertical latches the new state until you repeat the action, which is what you want for locking down a mag lock or shunting an alarm for an extended period. Either way the key comes out in the vertical position.
5) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7002 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is the nearest cross-brand equivalent, a mortise keyswitch in ACSI's 1300 Series. Like the DynaLock 7002, it is key-operated through a mortise cylinder rather than a pushbutton, so it suits the same application where release has to be restricted to keyholders. The DynaLock 7002 is the momentary, single SPDT switch configuration and accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, with the cylinder typically supplied by the user for master keying.
6) If I do not need key control, what is a simpler release switch than the DynaLock 7002?
A pushbutton removes the cylinder and keying entirely. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch are both unkeyed release switches, and the Trine 342 is built in a narrow profile for tight frame mounting. The DynaLock 7002 keyswitch is the choice only when you want release limited to a keyholder, since it requires a user-supplied 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam.
7) What is the difference between the DynaLock 7002 and an emergency exit button like the Securitron EEB?
They serve different purposes. The Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, and the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a momentary pushbutton marked Emergency Release - both are intended to be operated by anyone in an egress situation. The DynaLock 7002 is a keyswitch used to control electric locks or to shunt or activate security panels and consoles, and it only operates with a key in the mortise cylinder. A keyswitch is not a substitute for a marked emergency release device.
8) I need a maintained-contact device, not momentary. What are my options against the DynaLock 7002?
The 7002 configuration is the momentary one - rotating the key changes the contact state only while the key is held, and returning it to vertical restores the original state. For maintained operation, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained device, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button in satin aluminum is also maintained. Note both of those are pushbutton or rotary devices rather than mortise-cylinder keyswitches, so they do not give you key control.
9) What should I use instead of the DynaLock 7002 if I need a higher voltage switch rating?
The DynaLock 7002 switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC. If your circuit runs higher, the RCI 909F-MO flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC 10A. The tradeoff is that the RCI 909F-MO is a rocker in a beige finish rather than a keyed device, so it gives up the key control and the brushed stainless US32D appearance of the 7002.
10) Is the DynaLock 7002 keyswitch prewired, or do I terminate at the switch?
Switches ship factory prewired with 6 inch color-coded 18 gauge leads, so you are splicing in the box rather than landing screws on the switch body in the wall.
11) Will a DynaLock 7002 keyswitch fit a standard single gang box?
Yes. The 7000 Series switch assembly is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates, and the 7002 is supplied on a single gang plate unless you order the two gang version. Narrow plates are the ones to ask about when you are mounting on a tight aluminum frame stile rather than in a wall.
12) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release a door?
A keyswitch like the DynaLock 7002 restricts who can operate the door, because it takes a keyed mortise cylinder to throw the contact, which is why it is used for authorized release, alarm shunt, and lockdown control. A push button releases for anyone who walks up, which is what you want on the egress side. For that job ZenSupply carries the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with the handicap symbol for accessible openings, and the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button when you need a covered break-glass style release.
13) What else could I use instead of a DynaLock 7002 if I need a keyed mortise switch?
The closest alternative ZenSupply carries is the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, which is the same idea, a switch driven by a mortise cylinder. If the opening is a narrow aluminum stile rather than a wall, look at the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch instead. The RCI 919 Series rotary release button is a turn-style release but maintained rather than momentary, so it is not a drop-in for a 7002 application.
14) I need an ADA push plate for the same door instead of a keyswitch. What should I look at?
The RCI 950HP is a round push plate with a handicap symbol, momentary switch, in satin stainless steel. It is pushed rather than keyed, so anyone at the door can trigger release. The DynaLock 7002 is momentary as well, but actuation is by key through a mortise cylinder, which is the opposite access model. The 7002 is finished in brushed stainless steel (US32D) if you are trying to keep the two devices visually consistent on the same wall.
15) I want a lighted release device. Is the DynaLock 7002 with the LED option comparable to an illuminated pushbutton?
The 7002 can be ordered with a bi-color red/green LED running on 12/24VDC, which indicates lock state next to the keyswitch. On the pushbutton side, the Securitron PB4L Series uses an illuminated halo around a stainless push button and the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button. The illumination on those is part of the button itself, while on the 7002 it is a separate indicator alongside a key-operated switch.
16) My frame is too narrow for a standard gang plate. What is an alternative to the DynaLock 7002?
The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch built for slim mullions and narrow frame stiles. The DynaLock 7002 ships on single, double or narrow gang plates and needs 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate, so confirm that depth before committing to the keyswitch in a shallow frame. The Trine 342 is an unkeyed switch, so it does not carry over the key control of the 7002.
17) What finish is the DynaLock 7002 keyswitch plate, and how vandal resistant is it?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, which matches most commercial push plates and door trim. All visible screws are spanner head, so the plate cannot be pulled with a common driver, and an anti-tamper switch can be added if you need the panel to report a cover removal.
18) Is the DynaLock 7002 keyswitch suitable for a high-traffic commercial building?
It is a heavy duty commercial device, not a residential one. Switch capacity is 6 amps at 125 volts, the plate is stainless, and the fasteners are spanner head, which is the build you want on a school, hospital or multifamily entry that gets keyed several times a day.
