DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7022 Momentary, (1) DPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7022 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7022 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
The 7022 ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switch. The mortise cylinder and cam are normally supplied by the installer, which is how most integrators do it when the opening has to be master keyed into an existing system. If you don't want to source one separately, a mortise cylinder can be added as an option when you order.
2) What size mortise cylinder fits a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
It takes a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder fitted with a "bat" type cam. Any standard cylinder in those lengths will drop in, so you can key it to whatever keyway the rest of the building runs. The cam style matters as much as the length; a standard straight or clover cam will not operate the switch.
3) How much wall depth do I need behind the plate for a DynaLock 7022 keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the face plate for the switch assembly. On a shallow masonry box or a thin partition that is the number that decides whether it goes in, so check the box depth before cutting.
4) What is the difference between the momentary 7022 and a maintained keyswitch?
Momentary, which is what the 7022 is, changes the contact state only while you hold the key turned to its stop; release it back to vertical and the contact returns. That is what you want for a release pulse on an electric lock or a door operator. Maintained switching latches the state instead: turn to the stop and back to vertical and it stays changed until you repeat the action. Use maintained where you need to hold a lock unlocked or keep a panel shunted. Either way the key pulls out in the vertical position.
5) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7022 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is also a mortise keyswitch, so it is the nearest key-operated peer to the DynaLock 7022. The 7022 is a momentary keyswitch with one DPDT contact set rated 6 amps at 125VAC, accepting a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, in a US32D brushed stainless face plate. Both rely on a mortise cylinder, so either can be brought into an existing master key system; confirm the cylinder length and cam style your keyway supplier provides before ordering.
6) If the opening does not need key control, what should I use instead of the DynaLock 7022?
Where any occupant may release the door, a pushbutton is the simpler fit. The Securitron PB3 and the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch are both pushbutton-style door switches, and the RCI 950 round push plate carries the handicap symbol with momentary switching in satin stainless for barrier-free openings. The DynaLock 7022 is the choice when release must be restricted to a keyholder, since it is operated by a user-supplied mortise cylinder and the key is removable only in the vertical position.
7) I need the contact to stay changed after the key is released - is the 7022 momentary the right model?
No. On the momentary DynaLock 7022, the contact changes state only while the key is held at its stop and returns when the key is rotated back to vertical. DynaLock builds the 7000 series keyswitches in maintained versions as well, where rotating the key to its stop and back latches the new contact state until the action is repeated. Among peers, the RCI 919 rotary release button and the RCI 908 electronic exit button with red EXIT text both operate maintained, though neither is key-controlled.
8) Can I use the DynaLock 7022 as an emergency release station?
Emergency release duty is normally served by a marked, clearly identified device rather than a keyswitch. The ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked "Emergency Release", and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. The DynaLock 7022 is a momentary keyswitch that requires a mortise cylinder key to operate, which suits controlled release of electric locks or shunting security panels rather than egress by any occupant.
9) Can a DynaLock 7022 keyswitch switch a 120V circuit directly?
Contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, so it will carry a line voltage load within that rating, and it handles low voltage lock circuits without trouble. It is a single DPDT switch, giving you two independent sets of transfer contacts off one key turn, which is what you use when one action has to both release a lock and signal an alarm panel or console.
10) How does the 7022 keyswitch land in the box, and what wiring comes with it?
Switches come factory prewired with 6 inch color coded 18 gauge leads, so you are splicing to your home run rather than terminating screws in the back box. It ships on a single, double or narrow gang plate depending on how you order it.
11) What options should I specify when ordering a DynaLock 7022 keyswitch?
Four choices sit on the order: anti-tamper switch, bi-color red/green LED for 12/24VDC, a mortise cylinder, and a two gang plate. All four are independent, so you can take any combination including none of them. The LED is the one integrators usually add when the user needs to see lock status at the switch; the two gang plate is for pairing the keyswitch with a second device in the same box.
12) Is the DynaLock 7022 keyswitch secure enough for a public corridor?
It is built for commercial, heavy duty use, and all visible screws are spanner head so the plate cannot be taken off with a common driver. An anti-tamper switch can be added if you want the panel notified when someone attacks the plate. Finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, which is what most commercial openings are already running.
13) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release my electric lock?
Use a keyswitch like the DynaLock 7022 when release has to be restricted to keyholders, or when you want it tied into the building's master key system. Use a push button where anyone on the secure side may release the door: the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons or the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol cover that, and the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button or ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER, marked "Emergency Release", handle the code-required emergency release position. The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch for tight mullions.
14) Is there another brand of mortise keyswitch I can use instead of the DynaLock 7022?
The ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch, from the 1300 Series, is the closest cross-brand equivalent in the same mortise-cylinder keyswitch format. If the requirement is really a keyed-look release rather than a true cylinder keyswitch, the RCI 919 Series rotary release button in satin aluminum is a maintained rotary device that mounts in similar locations.
15) Can one DynaLock 7022 keyswitch both unlock a door and shunt the alarm?
Yes, that is the usual reason to pick the DPDT version. One pole can drive the electric lock circuit and the second pole can shunt or activate the security panel or console at the same moment, with contacts rated 6 amps at 125VAC on each. Because the 7022 is momentary, the shunt lasts only while the key is held over.
16) Which option gives me a lighted status indication at the door?
The DynaLock 7022 can be ordered with a bi-color red/green LED rated 12/24VDC in the plate, which gives lock status alongside the keyswitch. If you want illumination built into a pushbutton instead, the Securitron PB4L uses an illuminated halo with a stainless push button and the PB5 is a medium round illuminated push button; the Securitron EEB takes interchangeable LED lenses. The difference is control: only the 7022 restricts actuation to a keyholder.
17) What handles a higher voltage load than the DynaLock 7022 keyswitch?
The DynaLock 7022 switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC. The RCI 909F-MO flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC at 10 amps in a beige finish, so it covers a heavier or higher-voltage circuit. The trade-off is form and control: the 909F is a flush rocker anyone can operate, while the 7022 is a keyswitch on a stainless plate with spanner head screws and requires 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate.
