DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7025 Momentary/Maintained, 1/Ea. DPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.

DynaLock 7025 LED – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7025 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
Both ways are orderable. The base 7025 assembly ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switch, and the installer normally supplies the mortise cylinder and cam so the switch can be keyed into the building's master system. If you don't need it keyed to an existing system, you can order the 7025 with the mortise cylinder option included.
2) What size mortise cylinder fits a DynaLock 7025 keyswitch?
It takes a standard 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder fitted with a "bat" type cam. The cam style matters more than the brand here, so if you're keying it to an existing keyway, order the cylinder in your keyway with a bat cam.
3) How much depth do I need behind the wall to mount a DynaLock 7025 keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate for the switch assembly. That's the number to check against your back box or hollow metal frame before you cut, and it's the one dimension that most often kills a retrofit into a shallow box.
4) What is the difference between momentary and maintained on a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
Momentary changes the contact state only while the key is held rotated to its stop, and it snaps back when you return the key to vertical, which is what you want for a release-on-demand door. Maintained latches: turn the key to the stop and back to vertical and the contact stays changed until you repeat the motion, so it's the choice for shunting an alarm or holding a mag lock down through a period of the day. The key pulls out in the vertical position either way.
5) Can the DynaLock 7025 switch a mag lock circuit directly, or do I need a relay?
Contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, which covers most electric lock, security panel, shunt and console circuits without an interposing relay. The 7025 is the DPDT version, so you get two isolated pole sets off one key throw, which is what you use when you need to break the lock power and signal an access panel at the same time. Add a relay only if your load exceeds that 6 amp rating.
6) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7025 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is the comparable mortise keyswitch. Like the DynaLock 7025, it is a key-operated mortise switch rather than a push button, so it suits the same application where you want key control over an electric lock or security panel rather than free push-to-exit release. The DynaLock 7025 is a 7000 Series unit supplied with face plate, bracketry and cylinder locknut, and it accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, with the cylinder typically supplied by the user for master keying. The ACSI unit is from the 1300 Series. Both are the right shape of device when the specification calls for keyed control; the push button products are a different control method entirely.
7) If I do not need keyed control, what is a simpler switch than the DynaLock 7025?
A push button is the simpler device when any occupant should be able to release the door. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch both operate by pressing rather than by key, so there is no mortise cylinder to buy, key or master key. The DynaLock 7025 requires a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, which the user typically supplies, and the key must be turned to change the contact state. Choose the keyswitch where access to the switch itself has to be restricted, and a push button where it does not.
8) For a narrow aluminum stile, is the DynaLock 7025 keyswitch the right choice or is there a narrower option?
The Trine 342 is built as a narrow style electric door switch, which is the form factor intended for narrow aluminum stiles and mullions. The DynaLock 7025 ships on single, double or narrow gang plates and needs 1-1/2 inches of depth clearance behind the switch assembly, so confirm that depth is available before committing it to a tight stile. Where the opening allows the depth and you want key restriction, the 7025 is the keyed device; where the frame is the limiting factor and push operation is acceptable, the narrow style switch is the fit.
9) Can I use a DynaLock 7025 keyswitch as an emergency release device?
No, a keyed switch is not an emergency release. The DynaLock 7025 is operated by turning a mortise key cylinder, so release depends on the user carrying the correct key. Emergency release is handled by a dedicated device such as the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, or the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch, which is marked Emergency Release. Use the 7025 for controlled, keyed switching of electric locks or security panels, and specify a marked emergency release button separately where the life safety requirement calls for one.
10) What should I specify instead of a DynaLock 7025 keyswitch for an ADA accessible entrance actuator?
For an accessible entrance actuator, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol is the marked, momentary device intended for that role. The DynaLock 7025 is a key-operated switch requiring the user to insert and rotate a mortise key, which is not the actuation method used for an accessible door actuator. Keep the 7025 for keyed control of electric locks or for shunting and activating security panels and consoles, and use the marked push plate where an occupant-operated accessible actuator is required.
11) Is the DynaLock 7025 keyswitch tamper resistant enough for a public corridor?
All visible screws are spanner head, so it can't be opened with a common driver, and the plate is brushed stainless. It's rated heavy duty and built for commercial openings. For a higher security position you can also order it with the anti-tamper switch option, which gives you a signal back to the panel if the plate is disturbed.
12) What options do I need to decide on before ordering a DynaLock 7025?
Four choices drive the part: whether you want the anti-tamper switch, whether you want the bi-color red/green 12/24VDC LED for status indication at the door, whether the mortise cylinder ships with it or you supply your own, and whether you need a two gang plate instead of the standard single. All sixteen combinations of those are orderable.
13) Do I have to wire the switch myself or does it come prewired?
Switches ship factory prewired with 6 inch color-coded 18 gauge leads, so you're splicing in the box rather than landing screw terminals on the switch body. Plan your back box wire slack around that 6 inch tail.
14) Should I use a key switch or a push button to release my electric lock?
Use a key switch like the DynaLock 7025 when release must be restricted to keyholders, or when you need a maintained state such as shunting an alarm or unlocking a door for a shift. Use a push button when anyone on the secure side should be able to release the door: ZenSupply carries the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with the handicap symbol for accessible openings, and the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button where an emergency release is required by the AHJ.
15) What else can I use if the DynaLock 7025 won't fit my narrow frame or shallow box?
The 7025 needs 1-1/2 inches of depth behind the plate, which rules it out of some narrow aluminum stiles and shallow boxes. For a narrow opening ZenSupply carries the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch, and for a flush low-profile position the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch. Note that neither of those is key operated, so you lose the restricted-access part of the function.
16) Is there another brand of mortise key switch I could spec instead of the DynaLock 7025?
The closest like-for-like ZenSupply carries is the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, which is the same idea: a key-operated switch built around a mortise cylinder. If your requirement is a keyed maintained release rather than a mortise cylinder specifically, the RCI 919 Series rotary release button with maintained operation in satin aluminum is another approach to the same function.
17) I need a maintained-contact switch. How does the DynaLock 7025 compare to the RCI 908 and RCI 919?
All three offer maintained operation, but the actuation differs. On the DynaLock 7025, maintained means rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the contact state, and repeating the procedure returns it; the key is removable in the vertical position. The RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained push button, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is a maintained rotary device in satin aluminum. The practical difference is restriction: the 7025 latches a circuit only for someone holding the proper key, while the RCI devices latch for anyone at the door.
18) I need a switch rated above 6 amps. Is there an alternative to the DynaLock 7025?
The DynaLock 7025 switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC. If the load requires a higher rating, the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC at 10A. Note the trade in control method: the RCI unit is a rocker, so it is not key restricted, and it is finished in beige rather than the US32D brushed stainless steel of the 7025. Where the higher contact rating is the governing requirement and keyed restriction is not, the rocker switch covers it.
19) I want a lighted status indication at the door. Does the DynaLock 7025 do that, or should I use an illuminated push button?
The DynaLock 7025 can be ordered with a bi-color red/green LED, 12/24VDC, added to the assembly, so keyed control and visible status can be combined in one plate. If the device does not need to be keyed, illuminated push buttons cover the same status role: the Securitron PB4L Series has an illuminated halo with a stainless push button, and the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button. The Securitron EEB emergency exit push button uses interchangeable LED lenses. Decide first whether the switch must be key restricted, then match the indication.
20) Which of these switches is best for a high abuse opening where tampering is a concern?
The DynaLock 7025 is built for that condition: it is a heavy duty commercial device, all visible screws are spanner head, and an anti-tamper switch can be added to the assembly. Access is also inherently restricted because operation requires a mortise key cylinder. The push button comparables such as the Securitron PB3 Series and the RCI 908 Series exit button are operable by anyone at the door by design, so they address convenience rather than restriction. For a tamper sensitive opening, the keyswitch with the anti-tamper option is the device that matches the requirement.
21) Will the DynaLock 7025 match the stainless plates on the rest of my doors?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, which is the common commercial finish on push plates, exit buttons and door trim, so it will read the same as satin stainless hardware elsewhere in the building.
