DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7005 Momentary/Maintained, 1/Ea. SPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7005 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7005 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply one?
The 7005 ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switch itself. The mortise cylinder and cam are normally supplied by the user, which is what locksmiths want when the switch has to go on an existing master key system. If you would rather not source it separately, a mortise cylinder can be added as an option when you order.
2) What cylinder length and cam does a DynaLock 7005 keyswitch need?
It takes a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder fitted with a bat type cam. Any standard mortise cylinder in those lengths will work, so you can key it into the building's existing system, but the cam has to be the bat style or the key rotation will not drive the switch.
3) How much depth do I need behind the wall for a DynaLock 7005 key switch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of depth clearance behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number to check before cutting into a shallow box or a hollow metal jamb, since the cylinder and switch body sit behind the face plate.
4) What is the difference between momentary and maintained on the DynaLock 7005?
Momentary means the contact changes state only while you hold the key rotated to its stop; let it return to vertical and the contact goes back. Maintained means rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical latches the new state, and you repeat the motion to change it back. Momentary is what you use to pulse an electric strike or release a maglock for a moment; maintained is what you use to shunt an alarm zone or hold a lock unlocked. Either way the key comes out in the vertical position.
5) Can the DynaLock 7005 keyswitch switch a maglock or an alarm panel directly?
Switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, which covers direct control of electric locks and shunting or triggering security panels and consoles. The 7005 is the single switch, SPDT configuration, so you get one common with a normally open and a normally closed leg, wired out on 6 inch color-coded 18 gauge factory leads. If you need two independent circuits switched from one key, you want a double pole or two-switch model in the 7000 family instead.
6) If I do not need key control, what is a simpler switch to use instead of the DynaLock 7005?
A pushbutton removes the cylinder entirely. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Securitron PB5 Series medium round illuminated push button are both button-operated releases, and the RCI 950 Series round push plate is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel. None of these require you to supply a mortise cylinder and cam, which the DynaLock 7005 does when master keying a system. The trade-off is that anyone can press a button, while the 7005 restricts operation to a keyholder.
7) What should I use instead of a DynaLock 7005 keyswitch for an emergency egress release?
For a marked emergency release, look at the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release, the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, or the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text and maintained operation. Those are labeled egress devices anyone can operate without a key. The DynaLock 7005 is a keyswitch intended to control electric locks, shunt or activate security panels and consoles, and the key is required to change the contact state - which is appropriate for authorized control, not for free egress.
8) Why would I choose a key switch over a push button for releasing a door?
A key switch restricts who can operate the door release to whoever carries the key, and it can be keyed into the building's existing mortise cylinder system. A push button is for anyone at the opening, which is what you want for a request-to-exit or an ADA release. If the application is a public or emergency release rather than controlled access, look at a push button such as the Securitron PB3 Series, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, or the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button.
9) What other mortise key switches could I use instead of the DynaLock 7005?
For another key-operated mortise switch, the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series is the closest alternative we carry. If the requirement is a keyed look-alike but a maintained release rather than a cylinder, the RCI 919 Series rotary release button with maintained operation in satin aluminum covers that, and the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch fits where the frame face is too narrow for a gang plate.
10) Does the DynaLock 7005 keyswitch come on a single gang or narrow plate?
7000 Series switch assemblies are shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates. The 7005 comes on the single gang plate as standard, with a two gang plate available as an ordering option if you are combining it with another device in a two gang box.
11) I need a maintained-contact release but not a key. What compares to the DynaLock 7005 in maintained function?
Two peers are maintained-operation devices: the RCI 919 Series rotary release button with maintained operation in satin aluminum finish, and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with maintained operation and red EXIT text. On the DynaLock 7005, maintained means rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the contact state, and the procedure must be repeated to return it; the key is removable in the vertical position. The RCI units are operated by hand rather than by a mortise cylinder.
12) Which switch handles a higher voltage load than the DynaLock 7005 keyswitch?
The RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC at 10A. The DynaLock 7005 keyswitch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125 volts. If your circuit exceeds the 7005 contact rating, the usual approach on a key-controlled opening is to switch a relay with the 7005 rather than the load itself, since the 909 is a rocker rather than a key-operated device and offers no key control.
13) Is the Trine 342 a substitute for the DynaLock 7005 keyswitch?
Not directly. The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch, so it is a button-style release sized for narrow stile frames. The DynaLock 7005 is a keyswitch that accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, needs 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate, and ships on single, double or narrow gang plates. If the 7005 is wanted specifically for narrow stile mounting, order the narrow gang plate version rather than substituting a non-keyed device.
14) What is the difference between the DynaLock 7005 with the bi-color LED option and an illuminated pushbutton like the Securitron PB4L?
The Securitron PB4L Series is a stainless push button with an illuminated halo, and the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button - the illumination is part of the button itself. On the DynaLock 7005, indication is a separate ordering option: a bi-color red/green LED for 12/24VDC added to the keyswitch assembly, which also offers an anti-tamper switch and a two gang plate option. The 7005 remains key-operated with the LED reporting state, while the PB4L and PB5 are pressed by hand.
15) For an ADA-marked actuator, should I use the DynaLock 7005 or something else?
Use a push plate. The RCI 950 Series round push plate carries a handicap symbol and is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, which is the device type intended for barrier-free actuation. The DynaLock 7005 is a key-operated switch requiring a mortise cylinder, so it restricts operation to keyholders and is not an accessible actuator. Many openings use both: the 950 push plate for public actuation and a 7005 keyswitch for authorized control of the electric lock or security panel.
16) Will the DynaLock 7005 key switch match the stainless finish on our other access control plates?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, the same satin stainless most commercial exit buttons and push plates are supplied in, so it reads consistently alongside them on a jamb or corridor wall. All visible screws are spanner head, so the plate cannot be removed with a common driver.
17) Is the DynaLock 7005 heavy duty enough for a busy commercial entrance?
It is built as a commercial heavy duty device, with 6 amp at 125 volt switch capacity and a stainless face plate on spanner head screws. That combination is what MRO and institutional buyers standardize on for staff-operated door release points in schools, healthcare and multi-family entries.
