Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.

1) Does the DynaLock 7003 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
The 7003 assembly ships with the face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switches. The cylinder is a separate decision: you can add a mortise cylinder as an option when ordering, or leave it off and supply your own, which is what most integrators do when the opening has to key into an existing master system. It takes a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder fitted with a bat type cam.
2) How much wall depth do I need behind the plate for a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number that decides whether it drops into an existing gang box or whether you need to open up the wall, so check it before you cut. The switches arrive prewired with 6 inch color coded 18 gauge leads, so plan your box for that pigtail length too.
3) What does maintained mean on the DynaLock 7003 keyswitch, and when would I want momentary instead?
Maintained means the switch latches. Turn the key to its stop and back to vertical and the contact changes state, and it stays there until you repeat the procedure. Key comes out in the vertical position either way. The RCI 908 Series electronic exit button in the red EXIT text version is a maintained operation device, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is maintained in satin aluminum finish. Both latch a state the way the DynaLock 7003 does, where the contact stays changed until the device is operated again, but neither requires the mortise cylinder and cam the 7003 leaves to the user. Choose the 7003 when the state change itself must be restricted to a keyholder, and the RCI 908 or 919 when any occupant may set it.
10) What fits a narrow stile aluminum door where a DynaLock 7003 keyswitch will not?
Look at the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch, which is built for the narrow mounting width that an aluminum storefront stile gives you. The DynaLock 7003 switch assembly requires 1-1/2 inch depth clearance and ships on single, double or narrow gang plates, so depth behind the mounting surface is the constraint to check before committing it to a stile or a shallow box. On a glass front opening where you cannot get that depth, the narrow style Trine unit is the switch to price.
11) Can I use an emergency release pushbutton in place of a DynaLock 7003 keyswitch?
They are not interchangeable, even though both break or make the same lock circuit. The ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release, and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. Those are life safety egress devices, labeled and placed so anyone can release the door in an emergency. The DynaLock 7003 is a maintained keyswitch whose key is removable in the vertical position and whose visible screws are spanner head for tamper resistance, which is the opposite intent: restricted, deliberate state change by a keyholder. On a facility where an authority having jurisdiction has called for an emergency release at the door, the keyswitch does not satisfy it, and where you want the lock held unlocked only by a keyholder, the emergency button does not.
12) Is the DynaLock 7003 keyswitch secure enough for a public corridor or a school hallway?
All visible screws are spanner head, so the plate cannot be taken off with a common driver. For openings where someone has time alone with the device, add the anti-tamper switch option, which gives you a monitored point that reports an attempt to open the assembly back to your panel. It is a commercial, heavy duty rated device, not a residential part.
13) What else could I use instead of a DynaLock 7003 if I still want key control on the door?

For a mechanical room or back of house where a rocker is acceptable, the 909 is the simpler device; for a tenant facing opening where the release must be keyed and the plate has to match other stainless hardware, the 7003 is the one to spec.
15) Will the DynaLock 7003 match the stainless hardware on the rest of my doors?
Standard finish is US32D, brushed stainless steel, which is the common commercial finish and will read the same as satin stainless plates, levers, and push plates elsewhere in the building. If you are standardizing a facility, that is the finish to spec across the openings.
16) Why would I order the DynaLock 7003 on a two gang plate?
Take the two gang plate when the keyswitch shares a box with another device, or when you are covering an existing two gang opening in the wall and want a single clean plate rather than a filler.
