DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7023 Maintained, (2) DPDT

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7023 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7023 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
The 7023 ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switches. The cylinder is normally supplied by the installer so the switch can be keyed into the building's master key system. If you would rather not source one separately, a mortise cylinder can be added as an option when ordering.
2) What size mortise cylinder fits a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
Any standard 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise key cylinder will fit, and it must be fitted with a "bat" type cam. A standard clover or straight cam will not drive the switch.
3) How much depth do I need behind the wall or frame for this keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of depth clearance behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the figure to check before you cut into a shallow mullion or a surface raceway.
4) What does "maintained, (2) DPDT" actually mean on the 7023 keyswitch?
Maintained means the contact state latches: turn the key to its stop and back to vertical and the contacts change state, and you repeat that to put them back. The key comes out in the vertical position either way. Model 7023 carries two double-pole double-throw switches, so you get four sets of changeover contacts from one key turn, enough to hold a lock released and simultaneously shunt an alarm zone or drive an indicator circuit.
5) I need momentary release, not a latching switch. Is the 7023 the right model?
No. The 7023 is the maintained version, which latches the contacts until the key is turned again. For a release that only holds while the key is turned, order a momentary 7000 Series keyswitch instead. Momentary push button alternatives include the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch and the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton marked Emergency Release.
6) We only need a simple release button at the door, not a keyed switch. What should we use instead of the DynaLock 7023?
If no key control is required, a pushbutton is the simpler route. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Securitron PB5 Series medium round illuminated push button both release with a press rather than a rotated cylinder, and the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch for tight mullions and frames. The DynaLock 7023 instead requires a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, which the user typically supplies, so it makes sense only where the release must be restricted to keyholders.
7) For a code-required emergency egress release, is the DynaLock 7023 the right device?
For a marked emergency release the purpose-built devices are the better fit: the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton marked "Emergency Release" with momentary action, the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button carries red EXIT text with maintained operation. The DynaLock 7023 is a keyswitch that requires a key to change state, which is appropriate for authorized control of electric locks, security panel shunting or consoles rather than for unrestricted egress.
8) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release my electric lock?
Use a keyswitch when release must be restricted to authorized keyholders, or when you need a latched (maintained) condition such as holding a mag lock released during business hours or shunting a door contact for maintenance. Use a push button where anyone at the door may exit or buzz a visitor through: comparable options include the Securitron PB3 push button, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, or the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch for a mullion or frame-width application.
9) What options do I need to decide on when ordering a DynaLock 7023?
Four choices sit on the order: whether to add an anti-tamper switch, whether to add the bi-color red/green LED (12/24VDC), whether to include a mortise cylinder, and whether you want the two gang plate instead of the standard single. All sixteen combinations of those four are orderable.
10) Is this keyswitch suitable for a school or hospital corridor where people may tamper with it?
It is a heavy duty commercial device: all visible screws are spanner head, so a standard driver will not open it, and an anti-tamper switch can be added to signal removal of the plate to your access control or alarm panel.
11) What is the closest alternative to a DynaLock 7023 from another brand?
For a key-operated switch, the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series is the comparable mortise-cylinder device. If the requirement is a maintained release but it does not have to be key operated, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button both operate maintained.
12) What is the difference between the maintained DynaLock 7023 and a maintained rotary release button like the RCI 919?
Both hold their state after actuation, but the credential differs. The RCI 919 Series is a rotary release button with maintained operation in a satin aluminum finish, turned by hand. The DynaLock 7023 is maintained as well - rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the contact state, and the sequence must be repeated to return it - but it requires a mortise key cylinder, so only keyholders can change the state. The 7023 carries two DPDT contacts rated 6 amps at 125 volts and is furnished in US32D brushed stainless steel.
13) We need an ADA push plate at the entry - can the DynaLock 7023 serve that function?
No. For barrier-free actuation the RCI 950HP is a round push plate with a handicap symbol and momentary switch in satin stainless steel, which is the device intended for accessible entries. The DynaLock 7023 is a maintained keyswitch with two DPDT contacts that requires a mortise cylinder and key to operate, so it functions as an authorized control point rather than a public actuator. The two are often used together on the same opening, the keyswitch for staff control and the plate for accessible release.
14) Our opening needs a higher voltage switch rating than the DynaLock 7023 provides. What else is available?
The RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC at 10A in a beige finish, which is a heavier electrical rating than the DynaLock 7023 keyswitch contacts, which are rated 6 amps at 125VAC. The 909 is a rocker, so it is hand-operated rather than key-operated; if the circuit needs both the higher rating and key restriction, switch the load through a relay driven by the 7023 contacts.
15) We have a narrow stile or tight mullion. Will the DynaLock 7023 fit, or is there a narrower option?
The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch, made for constrained stiles and mullions. The DynaLock 7023 keyswitch assembly requires 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate and ships on single, double or narrow gang plates, and can also be ordered on a two gang plate, so verify the cavity depth and plate width before committing to the keyswitch in a narrow application.
16) Will the 7023 finish match the stainless plates already on my other doors?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, the same satin stainless used on most commercial push plates and exit buttons, so it sits consistently alongside existing stainless trim. The RCI 950 Series push plate is also supplied in satin stainless if you are mixing keyswitches and push plates on the same run of openings.
17) Do I need to field wire the switches inside the plate?
No. The switches arrive factory prewired with 6 inch color-coded 18 gauge leads, so the work at the box is splicing those leads to your lock or panel wiring.
18) Can I get the 7023 on a two gang box, and does it come on a narrow plate?
A two gang plate is an orderable option on the 7023. The 7000 Series switch assemblies ship on single, double or narrow gang plates, so a narrow plate is available within the series if you are mounting into a mullion or a tight jamb.
