DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7051 3101C Type, Momentary/Momentary

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7051 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7051 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply my own?
The 7051 ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switches. The cylinder is normally supplied by the installer so it can be keyed into the building's master system. If you would rather not source one separately, a mortise cylinder can be added as an option when ordering. It has to be a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder with a "bat" type cam.
2) How much depth do I need behind the wall or frame for a DynaLock 7000 Series keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate for the switch assembly. That is the number to check against a shallow back box or a hollow metal frame before you cut. Plates ship single gang, double gang or narrow, so pick the plate style that matches the space you have.
3) What is the difference between momentary and maintained on a DynaLock keyswitch, and which should I use for a mag lock?
Momentary, which is what the 7051 is, changes the contact state only while the key is held at its stop, then reverts when the key returns to vertical. Use that where you want a timed or brief release, like dropping a mag lock long enough for someone to pass. Maintained latches the state: turn to the stop and back to vertical and it stays changed until you repeat the motion. That is the one for holding a lock unlocked all day or keeping a security zone shunted. Key pulls out in the vertical position either way.
4) Will the DynaLock 7051 keyswitch accept my building's existing keyway so it matches the other doors?
Yes, as long as you supply the cylinder. The keyswitch takes any standard 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise key cylinder fitted with a "bat" type cam, so your locksmith can pin one in your existing keyway and keying system. That is the usual approach when master keying a site, and it is why the cylinder is an optional rather than a standard part.
5) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7051 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is the nearest equivalent in concept: it is a mortise keyswitch in ACSI's 1300 Series, so like the DynaLock 7051 it is operated by a mortise key cylinder rather than a push button. The DynaLock 7051 is the 3101C type with momentary/momentary switching, accepts a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, and ships with face plate, bracketry and cylinder locknut in US32D brushed stainless steel. If the job requires key control at the door, those two are the pair to weigh; every other common option in this category is a push button.
6) If I do not need key control, what is a simpler momentary switch to release an electric lock?
A push button avoids the cylinder and keying entirely. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, both actuate on press instead of on a key turn. The DynaLock 7051 exists specifically to restrict who can operate the circuit: it is a keyswitch requiring a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, typically supplied by the user so the switch can be brought into a master key system. Choose the push button where anyone at the door may release it, and the 7051 where only keyholders should.
7) I need a maintained contact, not momentary. What should I use instead of the 7051 3101C?
The DynaLock 7051 3101C configuration is momentary/momentary, meaning the contact changes state only while the key is held at its stop and returns when the key comes back to vertical. Where the contact must latch until it is deliberately changed back, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained device, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is offered in maintained operation with a satin aluminum finish. Both of those are button-operated rather than key-operated, so they trade key control for the latching function.
8) I have a narrow aluminum stile with limited depth. Is the 7051 the right switch or should I look at something else?
The DynaLock 7051 switch assembly requires 1-1/2 inch depth clearance and ships on single, double or narrow gang plates, with a two gang plate available as an ordering option. Where a narrow frame member rules that out, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch built for that profile, and the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is a flush-mounted device. Note that neither of those is key-operated, so if key control is a requirement the 7051 on a narrow gang plate is the configuration to confirm against the actual stile depth.
9) My circuit is 250VAC. Will the DynaLock 7051 handle it?
No. The DynaLock 7051 switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, so a 250VAC circuit is outside that rating. The RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC at 10A and would suit the higher voltage, though it is a rocker rather than a key-operated switch. If key control must be retained, switch the load through a relay or contactor and keep the 7051 on the low-voltage control side.
10) What options can I add to a DynaLock 7051 keyswitch when I order it?
Four choices, each yes or no: an anti-tamper switch, a bi-color red/green LED for 12/24VDC, a factory-supplied mortise cylinder, and a two gang plate. They combine freely, so you can spec anything from a bare keyswitch on a single plate up to a two gang plate with LED status, tamper switch and cylinder included.
11) Is a DynaLock 7051 keyswitch tough enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
It is a commercial, heavy duty device: all visible screws are spanner head to resist casual tampering, the plate is US32D brushed stainless steel, and an anti-tamper switch can be added to signal if the cover is attacked. That combination is why keyswitches like this end up on institutional corridor and stairwell doors rather than plastic exit buttons.
12) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release my electric lock?
Use a keyswitch when release has to be restricted to people carrying a key, or when you need an authorized action to shunt an alarm or hold a lock unlocked. Use a push button when anyone on the secure side should be able to release and speed matters. If a button is what your opening actually wants, ZenSupply carries the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol and momentary switch, and the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch for a narrow frame or mullion.
13) What other mortise keyswitch could I use instead of the DynaLock 7051?
For a keyed mortise switch from another brand, ZenSupply carries the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series. The difference that matters on a job is function: the DynaLock 7051 is a two-switch momentary/momentary configuration in US32D brushed stainless, and DynaLock's 7000 Series is offered momentary or maintained, SPDT or DPDT, in varying combinations, so match the contact type to the panel or lock you are driving.
14) I need an emergency release at the door, not a key switch. What should I look at?
A keyswitch is the wrong device for free egress, since it needs a key in hand. For an emergency release, ZenSupply stocks the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton marked "Emergency Release", and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text and maintained operation. Pair one of those with the 7051 if you want keyed control plus a labeled release on the same opening.
15) Can I use a DynaLock 7051 to shunt an alarm contact rather than release a lock?
That is one of its intended uses. The 7000 Series keyswitches control electric locks, shunt or activate security panels and consoles, or handle similar switching needs. Bear in mind the 7051 is momentary on both switches, so the contact only changes while the key is held; for a shunt you need to hold through the door cycle, choose a maintained configuration from the series instead.
16) Can a Securitron PB5 or PB4L replace a DynaLock 7051 keyswitch on an access control door?
They are not interchangeable in function. The Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button and the PB4L Series is an illuminated halo with a stainless push button; both are pressed by hand and give a lit indication at the door. The DynaLock 7051 is a keyswitch operated by a mortise cylinder with a bat type cam, with all visible screws spanner head for tamper resistance, and it can be ordered with a bi-color red/green 12/24VDC LED if a status indication is wanted alongside key operation. Substitute a PB5 or PB4L only where unrestricted actuation is acceptable.
17) The opening needs a labeled emergency release rather than a keyswitch. What are the options?
For a marked emergency release, the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked Emergency Release, and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. Those are intended to be operated by anyone in an egress emergency. The DynaLock 7051 is the opposite intent: a key-operated switch for controlling electric locks or shunting security panels, restricted to holders of the mortise cylinder key. Many jobs carry both, the 7051 for authorized control and a labeled release for emergency egress.
18) Which of these switches works for an ADA push plate application?
The RCI 950 Series round push plate carries a handicap symbol and is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, so it is the one in this group intended for an accessible actuator location. The DynaLock 7051 is a key-operated switch on a face plate in US32D brushed stainless steel, built for authorized control of electric locks rather than for public actuation, so it is not a substitute for a marked push plate.
