DynaLock 7000 Series Keyswitches

Model 7050 3101C Type, Momentary/Maintained

Keyswitches may be used to control electric locks, shunt or activate security
panels, consoles or any similar requirements. The assembly is supplied with
face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and one or two switches depending on
model ordered. The user typically supplies the mortise cylinder and cam when
master keying a system.
Switch contacts rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC and are available momentary or
maintained, SPDT or DPDT. Switch assembly requires 1-1/2” depth clearance
and is shipped on single, double or narrow gang plates.
Standard Finish: US32D
Cylinder Requirements: 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” Mortise Cylinder with “bat” type cam.

Standard Features
• Compatibility: Keyswitch readily accepts any standard 1-1/8” or 1-1/4” long mortise key cylinder fitted with a specified “bat” type cam.
• Multiple Switch Functions: Switches are available in momentary or maintained functions, with single or double pole contacts and may be ordered in varying combinations.
• Maintained Contact: Rotating the key to its stop and back to vertical changes the state of the switch contact. To return the contact to its original state this procedure must be repeated. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Momentary Contact: Rotating the key to its stop changes the state of the contact while the key is held in that position. Rotating the key back to vertical returns the switch contact to its original state. Key is removable in the vertical position.
• Tamper Resistant: All visible screws are spanner head.
• Heavy-Duty Switching: Switch capacity 6 amps at 125 volts.
• Factory Prewired Switches: Are shipped with 6” long factory wired color-coded 18 ga. leads.
• Standard Finish: US32D Brushed Stainless Steel

DynaLock 7050 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 7050 keyswitch come with a mortise cylinder, or do I have to supply one?
Both ways are orderable. The 7050 assembly ships with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and the switch or switches, and the cylinder is normally supplied by the installer so it can be keyed into the building's master system. If you would rather not source one, the Mortise Cylinder option can be added to the order. Either way the cylinder has to be a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch long mortise cylinder with a "bat" type cam.
2) How much depth do I need behind the wall or frame to mount a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch?
Allow 1-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the plate. The 7050 switch assembly needs that much room, so a shallow single gang box or a thin hollow metal jamb pocket can be the thing that kills the install. Check the back box before you cut the plate in.
3) What is the difference between momentary and maintained on a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch, and which should I order?
Momentary changes the contact state only while the key is held at its stop, then returns when you rotate back to vertical. That is what you want for a release pulse to an electric strike or a mag lock, where the door relocks on its own. Maintained latches the change: rotate to the stop and back to vertical and the contact stays switched until you repeat the move. Use maintained for holding a door unlocked during business hours or shunting an alarm zone. The key pulls out in the vertical position in both cases.
4) Can a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch handle switching a mag lock or a security panel input directly?
Contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, which covers direct switching of most electric locks as well as dry-contact shunt or arm inputs on security panels and consoles. Switches come SPDT or DPDT, so if you need to break lock power and signal the panel at the same time, order the double pole version. Leads are factory wired, 6 inches long, color coded 18 gauge.
5) What is the closest key-operated alternative to the DynaLock 7050 keyswitch?
The ACSI 1310-1 is the closest peer in kind - it is a mortise keyswitch, so like the DynaLock 7050 it is operated by a mortise key cylinder rather than a pushbutton. The DynaLock 7050 is the 3101C type with momentary/maintained switching, supplied with face plate, bracketry, cylinder locknut and switches, with contacts rated 6 amps at 125VAC and a standard US32D brushed stainless finish. The ACSI unit is part of that maker's 1300 Series. If the requirement is specifically key-controlled release so only keyholders can operate the door, either is a keyswitch; if the requirement is free egress by anyone, a pushbutton device is the different animal.
6) We do not need key control on this door - what should I use instead of a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch?
If anyone should be able to release the door, use a pushbutton instead of a keyswitch. The Securitron PB3 Series push button and the Securitron PB5 medium round illuminated push button are both push-operated request-to-exit devices, and the RCI 950 Series round push plate carries a handicap symbol with momentary switching in satin stainless for a barrier-free opening. The DynaLock 7050 requires a mortise key cylinder and cam to actuate it, which is the point when only authorized keyholders should be able to shunt an alarm or release a lock.
7) For a maintained-contact release that latches on until reset, what compares to the DynaLock 7050?
The DynaLock 7050 in maintained form changes contact state when the key is rotated to its stop and back to vertical, and the state stays changed until the sequence is repeated, with the key removable vertical. Two peers offer maintained operation without a key: the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text in maintained operation, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button, maintained, in satin aluminum. The RCI 919 is turn-operated by hand; the DynaLock 7050 requires the key, which is what keeps the latched state under the control of a keyholder.
8) Can a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch serve as the emergency release device on an egress door?
Devices purpose-marked for emergency release are a different category: the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked "Emergency Release" and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. The DynaLock 7050 is a key-operated switch that needs a 1-1/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with a bat cam, so operation depends on having the key in hand. Use the 7050 where authorized control of an electric lock, alarm shunt or console is wanted, and specify a marked emergency release device where the opening requires one.
9) What options do I need to decide on when ordering a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch?
Four choices drive the part: whether you want the anti-tamper switch, the bi-color red/green 12/24VDC LED for status indication, whether DynaLock supplies the mortise cylinder, and whether it ships on a two gang plate instead of the standard single. All 16 combinations of those four are orderable, so you can get, for example, an LED plus anti-tamper on a two gang plate with no cylinder.
10) Should I use a keyswitch or a push button to release my door?
A keyswitch limits the function to whoever carries the key, which is why the 7050 gets used for after-hours unlock, alarm shunt and staff-only release. A push button releases for anyone who walks up to it, and that is what you want on a request-to-exit or ADA-style entry. If the free-egress button is what you actually need, ZenSupply carries the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text in a maintained version. For a narrow jamb or mullion, the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch fits where a standard plate will not.
11) Is there another brand of mortise keyswitch I can use instead of the DynaLock 7050?
The closest cross-brand equivalent ZenSupply carries is the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series, which is also a cylinder-operated switch rather than a button. Where an ACSI 1310-1 will not do it, the RCI 919 Series rotary release button with maintained operation in satin aluminum gives you a turn-to-release action without a keyed cylinder, though it does not restrict use to keyholders the way the 7050 does.
12) Can I get two switch functions in one DynaLock 7050 keyswitch station?
Yes. The 7050 assembly is supplied with one or two switches depending on the model ordered, and functions can be mixed, momentary or maintained, single or double pole, in varying combinations. Two-switch builds are where the two gang plate option earns its place.
13) I need a switch for a narrow mullion or frame - is the DynaLock 7050 the right choice?
The DynaLock 7050 switch assembly ships on single, double or narrow gang plates and needs 1-1/2 inch depth clearance behind the plate, so the narrow gang plate version is the one to look at for a mullion. Where a purpose-built narrow device is preferred, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch. The trade-off is operation: the DynaLock 7050 is key-actuated with momentary or maintained contacts, while the Trine unit is a push-type door switch.
14) Does anything in this class switch a higher current than the DynaLock 7050?
The DynaLock 7050 switch contacts are rated 6 amps at 125VAC, with 6 inch factory-wired color-coded 18 gauge leads. Among the peers, the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch is rated 250VAC 10A, in a beige finish. If the circuit being switched exceeds the DynaLock rating, the RCI rocker is the higher-rated device, though it is rocker-operated rather than key-operated and comes in beige rather than the US32D brushed stainless of the DynaLock 7050.
15) I want a lighted status indicator at the switch - DynaLock 7050 or a Securitron illuminated button?
Both routes exist. The DynaLock 7050 can be ordered with a bi-color red/green LED, 12/24VDC, alongside the key switching, and can also add an anti-tamper switch and a two gang plate. On the pushbutton side, the Securitron PB4L Series is an illuminated halo with a stainless push button and the Securitron PB5 is a medium round illuminated push button. The distinction stays the same: the DynaLock 7050 indicates status on a key-controlled device, the Securitron units illuminate a push-to-exit device.
16) Will a DynaLock 7050 keyswitch match the stainless finish on the rest of my access control plates?
Standard finish is US32D brushed stainless steel, the same satin stainless used on most commercial push plates and exit buttons, so it blends with an existing run of openings. All visible screws are spanner head, so nobody is pulling the plate off with a screwdriver from the pocket.
17) Is the DynaLock 7050 keyswitch rated for a high-traffic commercial opening?
It is a commercial, heavy duty device, with 6 amp switching at 125 volts and spanner head fasteners on every visible screw. That combination is what suits it to institutional corridors, stairwells and staff entries rather than light residential duty.
