That covers essentially any residential split-system condenser and most light commercial units, since the sizing check is the max fuse or breaker figure on the unit's nameplate, not the tonnage. If that nameplate MOCP exceeds 60A, this pullout is undersized and you need a 100A class disconnect instead.
2) Can I mount an Eaton DPU222R AC disconnect outside on the wall next to the condenser?
Outdoors is exactly what it is built for. The enclosure is NEMA 3R galvanized steel in ANSI 61 gray, which is the rain and ice tight rating used for exterior wall mounting beside a condensing unit. Keep it within sight of the equipment and reachable, and it is fine in direct weather. It is not a washdown or dust tight enclosure, so a hosed-down or corrosive interior space needs a 4X rated switch.
3) Non-fused pullout vs a fused AC disconnect: which one do I need for a heat pump?
The DPU222R is a non-fused pullout, meaning it isolates only. Use it when the branch circuit is already protected by the breaker in the panel and the equipment nameplate calls for a maximum overcurrent device of the HACR breaker type. If the nameplate says maximum fuse size, or specifically requires fuses at the unit, you need a fused disconnect with the correct class fuses instead. Most modern residential heat pumps accept the non-fused version.
4) The pullout handle on my Eaton AC disconnect is cracked. Can I replace just the head?
The pullout head is a separate orderable part. For the DPU222R, the replacement head is part number 96-3258-4, so a broken or missing handle does not mean pulling the whole enclosure and re-landing conductors. 5) Can I use this 120/240V pullout on a 208V or 480V commercial rooftop unit?
No. The DPU222R is rated 120/240V only. It is fine on single phase 208V equipment where the nameplate lists 208/240V single phase, but a 480V or three phase rooftop unit needs a disconnect rated for that voltage and phase count. Putting a 240V rated pullout on a 480V circuit is a code violation and a failure risk.
