18 gauge steel. That's a lighter-duty channel than the 12 gauge strut typically used for heavy pipe racks and trapeze hangers, so use the 4D22 for lighter conduit runs, small pipe, cable tray supports and equipment mounting rather than long unsupported spans carrying heavy loads.

Yes. It's 18 gauge steel and cuts with a bandsaw, chop saw with a metal blade, or portaband. Because the finish is plain rather than galvanized, cut ends are bare steel either way, so there's no coating to touch up unless you're painting the run.
