A vertical inside bend carries the tray run up or down where the elevation changes, with the bend turning into the inside of the angle. Eaton B-Line model 4A-12-45VI24 makes that transition at 45 degrees on a 24 inch radius, so cable is never pulled around a sharp corner. If your run has to step down and over an obstruction, you will typically need two of these, one at each end of the offset.

Bend radius sets the minimum bending radius the cable itself sees. Large power and control cables have a manufacturer minimum bend radius, and a 24 inch radius fitting like this one gives generous room for heavy conductors. If your run is small instrumentation or comms cable, a tighter radius fitting is usually enough and takes up less ceiling space.

Aluminum. It weighs 5.4 lb, which makes overhead handling on a ladder easier than the steel equivalent, and aluminum holds up well in damp or corrosive indoor and outdoor environments. If your spec calls for steel or a hot dip galvanized run, do not mix this in, because dissimilar metals at the splice are a corrosion problem.

The 4A-12-45VI24 is sold as the fitting itself. Splice plates, hardware and any bonding jumpers are ordered separately, and you need a set at each end where the bend meets straight tray. Order the splice hardware that matches Series 2-5 aluminum tray so the connection is rated the same as the run.
