B-LINE B281AHDG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can a B-Line B281AHDG post base be used outdoors or in a wet location?
Yes. The B281AHDG is steel with a hot-dipped galvanized finish, which is the finish specified for outdoor, damp and corrosive-duty strut runs. It is the same part used indoors, just with the heavier zinc coating.
2) What is the footprint of the B281AHDG post base for laying out anchor bolts?
The base plate measures 6 inches by 6 inches with a height of 1.62 inches, so plan on a 6 inch square footprint at each column location. It weighs 3.3 lb.
3) What does centered offset mean on a square post base?
On the B281AHDG the channel pocket sits offset from the center of the 6 x 6 inch plate rather than flush in the middle. That shifts the strut column off the bolt-pattern centerline, which is what you want when the anchors or the slab edge will not let the post land dead center.
4) Do anchors or hardware come with the B-Line B281AHDG post base?
No. The B281AHDG is the galvanized steel base plate only. Concrete anchors, bolts and any channel nuts or fasteners tying the strut to the base are ordered separately and sized to your slab or deck.
5) Is the B281AHDG post base something a plumbing or electrical contractor uses for rooftop equipment supports?
It is an Eaton B-Line strut fitting catalogued for electrical work, and the hot-dipped galvanized steel construction is what gets used on rooftop and exterior strut stands. Any trade running B22-series channel columns can anchor them with it.
6) What part number do I order to standardize this post base across a facility?
Order by Eaton B-Line MPN B281AHDG. The HDG suffix is the hot-dipped galvanized version of the square centered-offset post base; ordering the plain part number gets you a different finish.
