1) Can the Eaton B-Line 884 HC NK junction box be used outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 884 HC NK is a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is indoor use only and offers no protection against rain, hose-down, or dust ingress. Use it in dry, indoor electrical rooms, mechanical spaces, and above-ceiling runs. For outdoor or wet locations you need a Type 3R or Type 4 enclosure instead.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 884 HC NK enclosure?
It measures 8 inches high, 8 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. That 4 inch depth is what decides whether your device, terminal strip, or wire bend radius fits, so check your deepest component against it before ordering.
3) Does the 884 HC NK come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
No knockouts. The 884 HC NK is a blank-wall box, so you punch your own conduit entries where you want them. That is the point of the NK version: you set hole size and location to suit the run instead of working around factory knockouts. Plan on a knockout punch or hole saw rated for 16 gauge carbon steel.
4) How does this B-Line box mount to the wall?
Surface mount, through mounting holes in the back of the enclosure. You fasten it flat to the wall, strut, or backboard with your own hardware sized to the substrate; the box is not designed to be flush or recessed into a wall cavity. At 4.7 lb empty, standard anchors into drywall with backing or direct fastening to strut both work.
5) Is the cover on the 884 HC NK hinged or does it come off completely?
Both, in effect. The cover is hinged for everyday access so it swings open and stays with the box during troubleshooting, and it is also removable when you need the opening clear for pulling wire or mounting a subpanel. A recessed pull ring and friction dimple hold it shut without a latch or tool.
6) What finish is the B-Line 884 junction box, and will it match the other enclosures in my plant?
Painted carbon steel in ANSI 61 grey, the standard grey used across most industrial enclosures and switchgear. If your existing gear is ANSI 61, this will sit alongside it without looking like a patch. The steel is 16 gauge.
7) Can I mount a terminal block or small panel inside the 884 HC NK?
The 884 HC NK is a plain single-door screw-cover style box with a 4 inch interior depth and no factory panel supplied. If you want a mounting panel or backplate for terminal strips or components, order it separately as a B-Line panel sized to the 8 x 8 box. The back wall does carry through holes used for mounting the box itself, so do not rely on those for internal component mounting.
