1) Can the B-Line 24126 RTSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 24126 RTSC carries a NEMA 3R rating, which covers outdoor use against falling rain, sleet and ice formation, and it ships with a rain hood over the cover. It is not a washdown or hosedown enclosure, so if you are dealing with direct spray or windblown dust you want a Type 4 or 4X box instead.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the Eaton B-Line 24126 RTSC?
It measures 24 inches high, 12 inches wide and 6 inches deep. That 6 inch depth is the number to check first if you are stacking terminal blocks, DIN rail or a contactor inside, and the 24 by 12 face is what has to clear on the wall along with the rain hood above the cover.
3) Does the 24126 RTSC come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own conduit holes?
Five knockouts are provided in the bottom of the box only. Top, sides and back are solid, which is deliberate on a 3R enclosure since bottom entry keeps water out. If you need side or top entry you will be punching it yourself in 16 gauge carbon steel and adding a raintight hub.
4) How is the 24126 RTSC fastened to the wall?
Surface mount through embossed thru holes in the back of the box. The embossed holes stand the fastener point off the mounting surface so the 3R integrity of the back panel is kept. Fasteners and anchors are not part of the box, so pick them for your wall type and for a 17 lb empty enclosure plus whatever you put in it.
5) How does the cover open on this B-Line RTSC enclosure, and is it a good choice for a panel I need to get into often?
It is a screw cover, flanged type, with plated screws. You remove the screws to take the cover off entirely, so it suits a junction or pull box that gets opened rarely. For an enclosure you are in weekly, a hinged continuous-hinge 3R box is the easier choice because a loose screw cover has to be set down somewhere and re-torqued each time.
6) Is the 24126 RTSC UL listed for an inspected commercial job?
It is built to UL 50, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment. The box is US made carbon steel at 16 gauge. If your specification calls out a particular listing beyond UL 50, confirm it against the submittal before you order.
7) Is a painted carbon steel 3R box okay for a coastal or corrosive site?
Carbon steel with a painted finish is meant for general outdoor and industrial exposure. In salt air, near chemical washdown or in a wastewater environment, painted steel will rust out at any scratch or field-punched hole. Those sites call for a stainless or non-metallic Type 4X enclosure rather than this one.
8) Will this B-Line enclosure match the grey on the rest of my gear?
The finish is painted ANSI 61 grey, which is the standard light grey used across most industrial control panels, disconnects and switchgear. If you are adding a box to an existing lineup of ANSI 61 equipment it will read as a match.
