B-LINE 2272 HS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Eaton B-Line 2272 HS wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 2272 HS is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is general purpose indoor only. Keep it out of wet, damp, or washdown areas and out of the weather. For outdoor runs you need a NEMA 3R rain-tight wireway instead.
2) Does this B-Line wireway have a hinged cover or a screw-on cover?
Hinged. The cover swings open on the 2272 HS rather than lifting off, which is the reason to pick the HS over a screw-cover trough when you are pulling and dressing conductors along a long run. It is still secured shut to the body with plated screws, so it is not a latch-only cover.
3) Does the 2272 HS wireway come with knockouts already punched?
Yes, 23 knockouts along the top and 23 along the bottom, so you can drop conduit into the trough at regular intervals without punching steel on site. The sides are not punched, so plan entries off the top and bottom faces.
4) Is this wireway approved for use in Canada?
The 2272 HS is built to CSA C22.2, so it is recognized for Canadian installations as well as US work. That is the certification carried on the trough itself; the installation still has to satisfy the local inspector.
5) What part number do I order for the 6 foot hinged 2-1/2 inch B-Line wireway?
Eaton B-Line part number 2272 HS. The HS suffix is the hinged screw-cover version; the number covers the 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 inch by 72 inch NEMA 1 steel trough with the knockout pattern. Fittings, elbows, tees, and connectors are separate items and are not included with the trough.
6) What gauge steel and what finish is the B-Line 2272 HS wireway?
16 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray. That is the standard gray used on most switchgear and panel enclosures, so a run of this trough matches existing gear on an industrial or commercial wall rather than standing out.
