B-LINE 8860 G – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How do you get conduit into this wireway, and do you have to drill it?
The 8860 G comes with 19 knockouts along the top and 19 along the bottom, so most branch conduit entries are already provided and you just punch what you need. The unused knockouts stay closed. Anything the knockout pattern does not cover you drill or punch in the field, and any opening you make in the sheet needs a bushing or connector to protect the conductors.
2) How does the 8860 G wireway mount to a wall or to strut?
Mounting is by thru holes in the body, so it bolts directly to a wall, a backpan, or to strut with your own hardware. No brackets, hangers, or fasteners are supplied with the trough, so include mounting hardware and any support channel on the order. At roughly 33.884 lb per 60 inch section before conductors, support it on structure rather than drywall anchors alone.
3) Can I run several of these together, and what else do I need to complete the run?
Yes. The 8860 G is a straight 60 inch length of 8 x 8 trough and runs are built by coupling straight sections end to end. The section itself is the body and screw cover only, so the fittings that turn or terminate the run, elbows, tees, end plates, couplings, and the mounting hardware, are separate items and need to be ordered in the same 8 x 8 size to line up with the flanges.
4) How is the cover on this B-Line wireway secured, and can I get at the conductors after it is installed?
It is a screw cover design, held with plated screws around the perimeter. That means you back the screws out to open a section for pulling or splicing, rather than flipping a hinged lid. Screw cover troughs hold up better where the cover is rarely opened, so if you expect frequent access during a build-out plan the labor for removing and reinstalling screws, or specify a hinged cover style.
5) Will this wireway match the gray on my existing panelboards and gutter?
The finish is ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used across most commercial electrical gear, so a run of 8860 G sections will read the same as typical panelboards, disconnects, and adjoining troughs in that finish. If your existing equipment is a custom or older gray, compare a sample before committing a full run.
6) How heavy a gauge is this trough, and is it stiff enough for a long horizontal run?
The body is 14 gauge steel, which is the heavier of the two common wireway gauges and resists oil-canning and sag better than 16 gauge on spans between supports. It still needs supports at the intervals your inspector expects for a loaded trough; the gauge buys stiffness, not unlimited span.
7) Is the Eaton B-Line 8860 G third party certified for a job that requires it?
Yes, it is CSA Certified, which matters on Canadian projects and on specs that call for a recognized certification mark on the raceway. Submit it as a NEMA 1, 14 gauge steel, CSA Certified screw cover wireway.
8) What is the part number to order this 8 x 8 x 60 inch B-Line wireway?
Order it as Eaton B-Line 8860 G. The number reads as the cross section and length: 8 inch by 8 inch, 60 inch long, G series screw cover NEMA 1 trough.
