B-LINE 4412 HS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this B-Line wiring trough outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 4412 HS is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor general purpose only, giving protection against incidental contact and falling dirt but not water. For outdoors, damp locations, or hose-down, you need a NEMA 3R or 4 gasketed wireway instead.
2) Are there knockouts already punched in this wireway, or do I have to drill it?
It comes with knockouts punched: 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom. Those handle conduit drops and feeds without pulling out a hole saw. Side and end penetrations you make yourself, and the body is 16 gauge steel so plan on a step bit or knockout punch rather than a twist drill.
3) Does the cover on the 4412 HS open on a hinge or does it lift off?
Hinged. The cover stays attached and swings open, which is what you want when the trough is mounted high or over equipment and you do not want to juggle a loose lid. It is secured to the body with plated screws, so it stays closed until you back those out.
4) How does the B-Line 4412 HS mount to a wall or backboard?
Through holes in the back of the body. You fasten it straight to the wall, strut, or plywood backboard with your own screws or bolts, which are not supplied. Pick fasteners to suit the substrate, and account for the 16 gauge steel body plus the weight of the conductors you are running through it.
5) Is this B-Line wireway approved for a job in Canada?
The 4412 HS carries CSA C22.2 certification, which is the Canadian standard series an inspector looks for on an enclosure of this type. Worth noting on submittals for cross-border or Canadian institutional work.
6) Should I use a 12 inch trough section or a longer run of wireway?
A 12 inch length is a jumper piece, used to bridge between two enclosures, tie a disconnect to a panel, or give yourself splice room at a single drop. If you are running a horizontal gutter above a row of panels you want longer sections of the same 4 x 4 wireway and couplings, not a string of 12 inch pieces.
7) Will this trough match the gray on my existing panels and control enclosures?
It is finished in ANSI 61 gray, the standard light gray used across most industrial panelboards, control cabinets, and gutter, so it blends with existing gear in a plant or mechanical room. Body is steel at 16 gauge.
