The 4436 GGV trough is a NEMA 4X enclosure, so it handles hosedown, splashing water and corrosive environments as well as indoor dry areas. That rating depends on the gasketed screw cover being fully installed and all screws torqued down, and on any unused knockouts being closed with rated plugs or fittings. It is also CSA Certified.

It is a 4 inch by 4 inch cross section, 36 inches long. A 4x4 trough gives 16 square inches of gross cross sectional area; under NEC wireway rules conductors are limited to 20 percent of that, so about 3.2 square inches of conductor fill, with no more than 30 current carrying conductors unless derated.

A screw cover like the 4436 GGV clamps the cover down against the flange with plated screws, which is what lets it hold a NEMA 4X wet and corrosion rating. The tradeoff is access time: every opening means backing out and refitting the screws. If you are pulling and repulling conductors often in a dry indoor panel room, a hinged cover NEMA 1 trough is quicker to work in. For outdoor runs, washdown areas, or anywhere water is present, the screw cover is the one you want.

It mounts with thru holes, meaning you fasten directly through the trough body into the surface or into strut behind it. Fasteners and any strut or standoff hardware are not part of the trough. Since a 36 inch section weighs 9.931 pounds empty, support it at the ends and size anchors for the filled weight of the conductors as well.

The body is galvanized steel at 16 gauge with plated screws and a gray finish. The zinc coating plus the NEMA 4X rating is what makes it suitable for damp, corrosive and washdown areas. In heavy chemical exposure or constant salt spray, stainless or a non-metallic trough is the better call.

Yes, 4x4 wireway is built to be run in sections, and 36 inches is one standard length. Joining sections and making corners takes separate fittings, connectors, elbows, tees and end plates, which are ordered apart from the trough body. Keep the same 4x4 size and the same NEMA 4X class of fitting through the run or you lose the rating at the weakest joint.
