B-LINE 4472 GRT – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the B-Line 4472 GRT wiring trough be used outdoors?
The Eaton B-Line 4472 GRT trough carries a NEMA 3R rating, so it is suited to outdoor or wet-location use where falling rain and sleet are the concern. It is steel with an ANSI 61 gray finish and plated screws on the cover. NEMA 3R is not a washdown or dust-tight rating, so keep it out of hosedown areas.
2) How does the cover come off on this B-Line wireway, and can I get to the conductors after install?
The 4472 GRT uses a screw cover, held secure by a flange and plated screws. Pull the screws and the full 72 inch length of the cover lifts off, so the whole run is open for laying in conductors or re-pulling later. If you want to drop wire in without removing hardware, a hinged-cover wireway is the better choice.
3) How do I mount a 4472 GRT trough to a wall or strut?
Mounting is through embossed thru holes in the back of the trough, so it bolts flat to a wall, backboard, or strut run without you drilling the enclosure and compromising the 3R rating. Fasteners are sized to the surface you are hitting and are not part of the trough.
4) Does this wireway come with knockouts already, or do I have to punch my own?
There are 23 bottom knockouts factory-provided on the 4472 GRT, so conduit drops into the bottom of the trough without field punching in most layouts. Ends and sides still get punched to suit the job.
5) What gauge steel is the B-Line 4472 GRT, and is it stiff enough to span between supports?
Body is 16 gauge steel, which is the usual weight for a 4 x 4 lay-in trough and gives it enough rigidity to carry between spaced hangers rather than needing continuous backing. Finish is ANSI 61 gray over steel.
6) Will the ANSI 61 gray finish match the rest of my gear?
ANSI 61 gray is the standard light gray used across most switchgear, panelboards, and enclosures, so a run of 4472 GRT trough will read as the same color as the equipment it feeds. Useful when you are standardizing a mechanical room or a plant wall.
