1) Is the 12WT wiring trough rated for a washdown or dusty plant environment?
It is a NEMA 12 wireway, built with a seamless poured in-place gasket and a hinged cover clamped down with screw clamps. NEMA 12 covers dust, falling dirt and dripping non-corrosive liquids in indoor industrial areas. It is not a washdown or outdoor enclosure, so for hosedown or exterior runs you want a NEMA 4 or 3R wireway instead.
2) How does the 12WT trough mount to a wall or to strut?
It ships with welded external mounting feet, so the fasteners go through the feet rather than through the enclosure wall. That keeps the NEMA 12 gasketed seal intact, since you are not drilling the body to hang it. Feet are welded on, not a loose kit, so there is nothing extra to order to mount it.
3) Does the cover come off completely, or is it hinged?
Hinged. The cover swings on heavy-duty hinges and is held shut with screw clamps, so it stays with the trough when you open it up to pull or land conductors. That matters overhead, where a screw-cover lid has to be handled and set down. If your spec calls for a fully removable screw cover, this is not that style.
4) What gauge steel is the B-Line 8836 trough, and does it need painting?
14 gauge steel, finished gray from the factory. No field finishing needed for a normal indoor installation. The 14 gauge body is what lets it carry conductor weight over a 36 inch span without the sides oil-canning when you clamp the cover down.
5) Will this wireway pass a Canadian inspection?
The 8836-12WT carries CSA C22.2 certification, so it is acceptable for installation under the Canadian Electrical Code as well as for US industrial work.
6) Does the 8836-12WT come with knockouts?
It is a seamless poured in-place gasketed NEMA 12 trough, which is supplied without knockouts so the enclosure integrity is yours to control. Plan on field-drilling and using gasketed hubs or sealing fittings at every penetration to hold the NEMA 12 rating.
