1) Is the Eaton B-Line 8872 GGV wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 8872 GGV trough is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only. It offers no protection against rain, splashing water, or washdown. For an outdoor run or a damp mechanical yard you need a NEMA 3R rated raintight wireway instead.
2) Does this 8x8 wireway come with knockouts already punched, or do I have to drill it?
It comes pre-punched: 23 knockouts along the top and 23 along the bottom of the 72 inch body. Ends and sides are worked to the standard GGV pattern, so for a typical panel feed you can knock out what you need rather than hole-sawing 14 gauge steel in the field.
3) How does the cover come off on the 8872 GGV trough, and can I get back into it after the wire is pulled?
It is a screw cover, held on with plated screws. You back the screws out to open the full length of the run for pulling or re-pulling conductors. Screw cover is the right choice where the trough is a permanent feeder gutter; if you expect to open it constantly, a hinged cover trough is less work.
4) What is the 8872 GGV wireway made of and will it hold up in an unheated warehouse?
Galvanized steel in 14 gauge, finished gray, with plated cover screws. The galvanizing plus the heavier gauge handles dry unconditioned interior spaces such as warehouses and plant floors. It is still a NEMA 1 box, so keep it out of anything that drips or gets sprayed.
5) Is the Eaton B-Line 8872 GGV trough acceptable for a job in Canada?
Yes, the 8872 GGV is CSA Certified, so it can be specified on Canadian work as well as US jobs where a certified wireway is called for.
6) Do I need couplers or connectors to join two lengths of this wireway together?
Yes. The 8872 GGV is a 72 inch body section only, so any longer run is built from multiple sections joined with matching 8 x 8 connectors, and open ends need end plates. Order those separately alongside the trough so the run can be closed out.
