No. The 8872 HS trough is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only. It offers no protection against rain, dripping water, or washdown, so for an exterior wall, a rooftop run, or a wet process area you need a NEMA 3R or 4 raintight trough instead.
2) How does the cover open on the 8872 HS trough, and can I get at the wires after it is mounted?
The cover is hinged, so it swings open on the trough rather than lifting off, and one person can open a run without juggling a loose lid on a ladder. The cover is secured to the body with plated screws, so you still back out the screws before swinging it. If you would rather have a fully removable screw cover, order a non hinged (NS) trough instead.
3) What gauge steel is this wiring trough, and what is the finish?
The body is 14 gauge steel finished in ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used on switchgear and panel boards, so a run of it matches existing electrical equipment on an industrial or commercial wall. Painted steel, not stainless or aluminum, so keep it out of corrosive or wash areas.
