B-LINE 4472 GGV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Eaton B-Line 4472 GGV wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 4472 GGV is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only. It has no gasketing and the cover is held on with plated screws, so it should not be used outdoors, in washdown areas, or anywhere subject to dripping water or oil. For those openings you need a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 raintight wireway instead.
2) Does this B-Line wireway come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own?
Knockouts are already there. The 4472 GGV has 23 knockouts along the top and 23 along the bottom, so you can drop conduit into it at regular intervals without field punching. It is the NK (knockout) version of the GGV trough, not a blank-side body.
3) How is this wireway mounted to a wall or strut?
Through holes in the back of the trough. The 4472 GGV is drilled for thru-hole mounting, so it fastens flat to a wall, backboard, or strut with your own bolts or lags. Mounting fasteners and any hangers or brackets are not part of the trough and need to be ordered separately, along with connectors for joining sticks end to end.
4) How does the cover come off on the 4472 GGV, and can I get back in after it is installed?
It is a screw cover. The full-length cover is fastened with plated screws, so you back the screws out to open the run for pulling or splicing and re-fasten when you are done. It is not a hinged or latching cover, so plan on room to swing a driver along the face of the trough.
5) What is the 4472 GGV wireway made of, and will it hold up in an unheated garage or plant?
The body is galvanized steel in 16 gauge, finished gray. The galvanizing gives it corrosion resistance that a painted-only trough does not have, which suits unheated indoor spaces, garages, and plant interiors. It is still a NEMA 1 enclosure though, so it is not for direct exposure to weather.
6) Is the Eaton B-Line 4472 GGV wireway CSA certified for a Canadian job?
Yes, the 4472 GGV carries CSA certification, so it can be specified on work requiring CSA certified electrical enclosures.
