1) Will an Eaton BR Fire-Guard AFCI 2-pole breaker fit a Square D or Siemens panel?
No. The BR Fire-Guard AFCI is built for Eaton Type BR loadcenters only. Type BR breakers use a different mounting and bus interface than Square D QO/Homeline or Siemens/Murray panels, so it will not seat correctly in those. Check the panel label or the existing breakers in the box: if they are stamped BR, this is the right family. If the panel is Eaton CH (the other Eaton line), a BR breaker does not belong there either.
2) I am replacing a standard 2-pole 20A BR breaker with an AFCI. What changes in the panel?
The BRL220CAF drops into the same two spaces on the BR bus, but the wiring is not a straight swap. A standard breaker takes only the hot conductors; the AFCI also needs the circuit neutral landed on the breaker's neutral terminal and its own coiled pigtail landed on the panel neutral bar. That means pulling the circuit neutral off the neutral bar and identifying which one belongs to that circuit, which is the step that eats the time on a retrofit. Conductors from #14 to #4 AWG, copper or aluminum, land on the breaker.
3) I need AFCI protection on a 240V circuit. Will a 2-pole AFCI breaker cover it?
That is exactly what this one is for. Two poles with common trip means a fault sensed on either pole opens both, so a 240V load is fully de-energized instead of left with one leg live. It works at 120/240V, so it also covers a multiwire branch circuit sharing a neutral between two 120V legs. A single-pole AFCI cannot do either job.
4) Does this Eaton AFCI breaker include ground fault protection too?
No. Fire-Guard is arc fault only, a combination AFCI under UL 1699. It will not satisfy a GFCI requirement for a bathroom, kitchen counter, garage, or outdoor receptacle. Where the circuit needs both, you want a dual-function AFCI/GFCI breaker or an AFCI breaker paired with GFCI receptacles at the outlets.
5) Does this Eaton breaker catch both series and parallel arc faults, or only one type?
Both. It is a combination-type AFCI, which is what the word combination means on the label: series arcing (a loose terminal or a nicked strand in the run) as well as parallel arcing (a damaged cable shorting line to neutral or ground). A branch/feeder-only device catches parallel faults but not series ones, so the combination unit is what most branch-circuit AFCI requirements call for. It carries UL 1699 certification.
6) Can I use this Eaton AFCI breaker on a federal or government project?
